Thanks bitsnpcs and TheDead!

I tried the SHIFT key - but it also freezes... from what I have found online it seems a GMA 500 issue - I tried installing Debian with ACPI=off, worked with the first bootup, then freezes when shutdown/ restart.

I guess I will have to install Linus Lite on another computer. Many thanks again for every comment!

Hello,

I had the same problem every time I activate "install update during installation" option.
The problem arises on every version of LL from 3.4 to 3.8, and on every kind kind of PC.
LL 4.8 running on Dell Optiflex 760
LL 4.8 running on Asus X52J
LL 4.8 running on Toshiba Satellite C670-14W
LL 3.8 (32 bits) running on HP Pavilion
LL 5.0 running on Samsung RV515

Hey @wongtsz
Like @RandomBoy mentions, if you checked the install updates when installing, I'm just guessing but it could be that the Linux Kernel was updated too.
Something to try:
- Turn off PC
- Turn it back on and hold the SHIFT key.
- Grub should boot with the menu
- You can then choose the advance option to selct a previous kernel.
- Try an older Kernel (standard / generic ones)

I had a similar problem on a machine and reverting to previous kernel worked.

Good luck!

Hello wongtsz,

I have had a search around, it seems the problem is the "glib" in installer, info from 01.org.
You need a Linux installer with an older glib version.
Only the LL developers will know which earlier version of LL uses the glib before 2.0.0

I see the problem was mentioned across Ubuntu and those based on it, also on Fedora and Crunchbang distros, same problem.
The problem first wrote of (that I could find) on 01.org from "2013 Q4" release not being possible to use.

I was not able to find any other useful info for Linux for this.
I did find Intel page with all the drivers for windows from xp to 10, or many sites of people asking about drivers for Linux but I did not see any solutions for this wrote of.

So the Linux Grub is installed now, or the Linux OS is installed, but it wont boot to the desktop, without using the usb stick ?
Or are you doing this using the usb stick ?

Have you checked the BIOS settings, set to "legacy" and not to UEFi ?
Also disable "fast boot" in BIOS ?

Thanks bitsnpcs - the thing is - there are no such options in my BIOS (latest version)...
Windows XP is installed, factory; no luck so far with installing Linux.

I had some trouble last time and had much better luck by not checking "update during installation" and not including the third-party codecs.  Adding them after installation was easy and didn't mess things up.

Hi RandomBoy, I can't even manage to get to that step, yet!

I was not reaching desktop with LL after installing it, but it did work on the Live disc.
Is different computer, but here are the links of how it was solved -

https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/installing-linux-lite/installing-ll-3-2/

https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/video-cards/intel-530hd/

Of which software did you make the USB Live ? - some software not so good for that.
I used this free software for making Live Linux USB from a Windows computer many times, every time working correctly for me -
https://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/files/Archive/win32diskimager-v0.9-binary.zip/download

Thanks bitsnpcs! I have tried the Tab option and replaced 'quiet splash' with 'nomodeset' - lots of texts rolling - then it freezes again.
Tried this routine three times already...

May or may not be graphics card. Whatever blobs are available are all in the i915 bundle and the live disk installer should be able to deal with that. You said XP which means it is unlikely a UEFI issue unless you are 64bit. Early Celerons have issues as well. What is your CPU? Will the live system boot from the dvd or USB? Not speaking of the installer, rather the live LL system.

TC

Thanks man! It is a 32 bit, CPU Intel Atom Z 520 (1.33 GHz); the live LL - my best try was to reach the 'feather' page, not even reaching the LL desktop.

Thanks man! Really appreciate it.

Since I am no guru in this - how do I get the line 'ls -l /dev/disk/by-label/' ?
