Many thanks stevef & trinidad.

As you guys said, the issue occurred because there were no updates available. The new January updates have just brought the widget-update-notification up to date. Happy New Year to you both.

64bit OS (32-bit on Samsung netbook) installed in Legacy mode on MBR-formatted SSDs (except pi which uses a micro SDHC card):
2017 - Raspberry pi 3B (4cores) ~ [email protected] - LibreElec, used for upgrading our Samsung TV (excellent for the task)
2012 - Lenovo G580 2689 (2cores; 4threads] ~ [email protected] - LL3.8/Win8.1 dual-boot (LL working smoothly)
2011 - Samsung NP-N145 Plus (1core; 2threads) ~ Intel Atom [email protected] - LL 3.8 32-bit (64-bit too 'laggy')
2008 - Asus X71Q (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6/Win8.1 dual-boot, LL works fine with kernel 4.15
2007 - Dell Latitude D630 (2cores) ~ Intel [email protected] - LL4.6, works well with kernel 4.4; 4.15 doesn't work

There haven't been any new LL specific updates for a while. It happens sometimes as LTS distributions move through the release cycle. Nothng to worry about. Currently I would expect LO, Fifrefox and Thunderbird sometime this month.

I turned the widget on on one of my system and it shows 11 days since the last update.
Update/upgrade runs everyday but the last time it actually found anything that needed updating was on 19th December.
So, I think the widget message means "The last time any updates were necessary was X days ago."

The other message is saying no updates are necessary so essentially they are saying the same thing.
clueless

Hello Everyone,

I haven't been here for a long while, so this is a "hi" to anyone who knew me when I used to drop in regularly.
Recently, I strongly recommended LL6.6 to two new 'linux migrants' (travelling from MS Windy).

However, they both have an issue with two contradictory notifications regarding updates, that is "Your system is up to date" on the screen view, versus "8 days since your last update" on the LL-widget - see screenshot showing this at  https://imgur.com/fU8gv4u

How do I know which notification is correct?
How do I fix this, so that the incorrect notification doesn't pop up again?

In terminal I tried the following, but it didn't help resolve the issue:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt --fix-broken install
Many thanks in advance for any help with this  :)
Best wishes
Mike G.
