The error message posted is typical of an attempt to run updates on a system booted from a 'Live image' media.
A system running a Live image is not intended to be updated and will report this error.
If it is intended to run the OS from USB (rather than installing to a disk) extra steps are required to create a 'persistent' image when preparing the USB drive.

The problem you have appears to be that the laptop BIOS/UEFI is not recognising the new Linux installation as a viable boot source.
It is possible the installation didn't complete successfully - were there any errors reported ?

If the installation was good, next thing to look at is the BIOS/UEFI set up.
Remove the USB media and power up.
Watch carefully for a message saying something like 'To enter set up press...' and press the appropriate key - it could be F2.
Trial and error may be needed to get the timing right.

Once into BIOS/UEFI set up, you should be able to see what disks it sees and perhaps edit the boot order so that the Linux Lite installation is top of the list.

I'll move this post to the Installation section as it isn't really an Update problem.

Hi, I have installed Linux Lite from a USB stick onto my daughter's Samsung RC530 laptop which had been running Windows 7 home edition, but which had run into boot I/O problems which I could not overcome despite extensive attempts. The Linux installation was done with Linux as the sole OS and as part of the process Partitions 2 & 3 of the hard drive were reformatted. I am encountering a message in the bios when I try and boot which states: "Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device or Insert Boot media in selected boot device and press a key". Not sure what changes I have to make to get the computer to boot from Linux Lite on the hard drive and so I have been using the usb with Linux Lite for booting and been trying to load install updates. Below is the log I received and was requested to submit to you.

Any help you are able to give to sort my problems would be appreciated. Windows had originally recorded the DVD/CD Rom Drive as DVDWBD TS-LB23A but presently just known as cd drive.
