Hi
The choice is still available
We can install Abhiword & Gnumeric if we want it and use it
We can install Calligra Office Suite if we want it
Libre Office is the basic office suite given, if you do not like it, you can uninstall it

WPS Office Alpha is good, I am using it extensively

You [developer(s)] could do the same thing that you plan for the browser.  Let the user install

- libreoffice
- abiword
- kingsoft
- Koffice
- etc.

And save more space and allowing the users to chooose.

p.s. I stick w/ LO.

Currently, I use (Kingsoft)WPS Office. I started to use it when I lived in Taiwan. It works as a good word, excel and power point replacement for user transfering from windows. It is Proprietary software but it is free to use software or purchase. Depending on the users needs.

I like and use LibreOffice too, I don't use office software very often, I use the writer component only.

Personally I really like LibreOffice. I use it quite often and am very familiar with it. I wouldn't want to see that suite change.

Kingsoft WPS is the most used office software in China, it is in Ubuntu Kylin.
It may have had more development specifically for that release ?

True, its been in alpha for a while now and has been buggy too, the current alpha is the best yet tho!

Strange that in Windows it's reached Beta?! I use it on my Business laptop (I have to use windows for business as the software i use for managing my tyre business is written for windows) Other wise I'll use open source where possible!

I'd like to point out that Kingsoft Office for Linux is currently in the alpha stage (i.e. there's a very good chance for bugs) for those considering giving the software a test install.

See here.

We got this query via email a few months back, here is what I replied with...

Quote from: Email Message
Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. We've looked at Kingsoft Office and whilst its a good suite, changing mid stream to a whole new suite is not something we want to put our audience through. An office suite is a major part of our distribution, consistency and familiarity are important in this regard. To make our audience go from MS Office > LibreOffice > Kingsoft Office in 2 releases is contrary to this approach. There is also the consideration that because Kingsoft copies from Microsoft's design they are extremely vulnerable to being shutdown at anytime. That scenario would leave our audience in a very unfair and unsupported situation, with again the inconvenience of changing Office suites once more.

Thank you again, happy computing.

Using it now, seems to be easier for windows migrants. IMO. It is formerly known as Kingsoft . I am finding conflicting info on weather it is open source or not. Maybe someone can fill me in. I  also want to check out xfdashboard, a Gnome like super-key search
