You can also consider installing xfce4-places-plugin using Install/Remove Software.  Once installed, use Panel Settings (Menu, Settings, Panel), go to the Items tab, click on Add new items, and when the new popup opens, select Places to add it to your panel.

When it's done, it can look like this.  Notice the Recent Documents section.

This has the simplest, fastest way to add to your system in Panel area showing latest files accessed. Takes only a minute or so to set up.


Suggestion: include it in next distribution.

The indicator is the white box with dark downward triangle between the volume and wifi indicators....
