I have renamed Xauthority (with Thunar, if that matters) to no effect. How close am I to having to start over from a new account?

I think it is about time you do so. You could save a lot of time just by creating a fresh new account and going from there.

Sorry for seeming stupid and preferring Linux - I just don't know any better.

If by loop you mean that it will bring you back to the Login page after entering your username and password to login, it is likely .Xauthority is/got corrupted or has wrong permissions.

To solve the issue, login via Terminal and rename .Xauthority

Code: [Select]
mv /home/$USER/.Xauthority /home/$USER/.Xauthority.old
reboot

The new file will be created for you with correct permission during next login.

What past thread?

My /home settings were migrated from 2.8, I have performed chmod 755 on my user folder, and I have partially solved the "no-GUI" problem by reactivating / (root file system)'s fstab entry.

Lite now boots to the login GUI again, but it gives me the same loop I mentioned in the past thread https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/other-17/home-folder-empty-login-screen-loop/.

There's no rush in fixing this; I don't mind waiting until the 27th. In the meantime, have a nice holiday season! :)

Your logs show that you have added PPA's. So now I'm confused.

I do not recall any installation of hardware drivers other than the ones provided by Linux Updates.

Did you install any PPA's and or drivers that would affect any in built or attached hardware?
eg. video drivers, usb devices etc

I have uploaded the attachments to the forum thread in four parts. Also, may I use the currently-blocked (and the only splittable with Lite's Archive Manager) 7-Zip format? Thank you.

Split it up into smaller files.

The zip file was ~700KB, while the limit is 500.

You should be able to attach logs here LP. Let me know if you can't, and what the exact file names are.

Please post the logs.

I've ran updates for x32 and x64 versions and rebooted without issues.

After having installed some updates on Lite 3.0, along with some new applications, I received a GUI failure on the next boot. Do I post any logs here?
