Thanks for the reply. What's odd is that this just started happening.  I'll muck around with it and inspect the BIOS settings, and see what I can do.

This can be caused by an EFI CSM configuration problem, depending on your BIOS and EFI version. If you are under CSM the Ps2 to USB emulator may not be present and may or may not be necessary in your specific boot condition, which is different than in OS condition. That is why unplugging and plugging solves the problem, as your OS can find the USB device, but not your EFI CSM in NVRAM. This is of course a likely OEM issue concerning your specific hardware.

I had to change suspend settings to "Never" on all. If the Authenticate screen comes on, pointer disappears. It wasn't a full moon either?
changed from Windows 10 to a REAL OS

Installed LL3 and all was working well for a while. Then after various tweaking, now when I boot up after I type in the password the mouse cursor is there but the mouse (USB wired) is unresponsive. The notebook touchpad still works fine.  Unplugging/replugging the mouse resolves the issue but needless to say, this is not a usable workaround.  Any ideas how to get things back working again?  how to re-install the mouse drivers or sub-system?
