Linux Lite 8.0 Installer - multiple problems
#1

10 new fails on a new laptop...

Yesterday I wanted to upgrade my wife's laptop from LL 6.6 to LL 8.0. The result was highly frustrating, to say the least!

After failing 10 times with the LL 8.0 installation (all attempts failed due to Calamares PM which refused to recognize the /dev/sda1 partition) I chose the hard way: to install LL 7.8 and perform Lite Series Upgrade.

Lite Series Upgrade., worked seamlessly, but when it came to reboot, trouble started to surface:

Bugs found so far:

-The "Reboot" sequence, gave me a black screen. Both keyboards (laptop and exernal) went unusable;
-Machine was still running and I had to use the Power button to stop it and reboot;
-After finally booting into LL 8.0, another bug surfaced: the Authentication window triggered by Apps, rejected the password. In order to  start/install something, I had to use CLI. This worked.
-LuckyBackup, Bleachbit, DoubleCommander in Root mode could be started only via CLI.
-Shutdown and Restart could be performed only from Power button.
-Weird! The only App that gets the data from the Authentication window, is Synaptic Package Panager!

Conclusion, so far:
On the AMD platform, it seems that besides the Calamares PM, there are many other issues that look like being triggered by the AMD GPU.

What is very difficult to swallow though, is the fact that LL 7.8 installs great and runs great on the very same machine, without any slight change in hardware configuration, while Calamares PM fails systematically!

From the software perspective, I used the same combination as ever: GParted to edit /dev/sda1 and the LL 7.8 ISO for installation.
Now, comparing the two installations, on Dell Precision T1700 (Intel based) with the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Slim (AMD based) becomes very clear to me that Calamares PM has serious bugs related to video drivers and it also looks like nothing is related to Linux Lite build.
Further more, it seems that the upstream Ubuntu has more bugs than only the Calamares PM.

In the end, I hope that people who have similar hardware configurations, will profit from this info and make the best decisions regarding what Linux Lite version (7.8 or 8.0) would be more appropriate to use.

Best regards!

I have had a similar issue.

Except when it was installing for the whole drive the installation was fine until about 66% in, an error came up saying that it could not find or open casper....Now my computer will not boot from anything. Not 7.0, 7.4, 7.8, nor 8.0. Heck now it won't even boot from an USB drive. I can see the drives there but it will not boot.

gave me a message about failing to fork off sandboxing environment for executing generators.
!!!!!! failed to start up manager
system[1]: Freezing execution.
Please let me know what you need so I can try to get that information to you.
Thanks

This is confusing. How exactly, in order, did you perform any upgrades?

@Serban S. there is no Series 6 to Series 8 upgrade path, only 7.8 - 8.0 via Lite Series Upgrade. Only issues specific to that path will be investigated. Thank you.
