I have an old HP2000 laptop. I wanted to install LL but having trouble getting it to boot to the thumb drive. I know the thumb drive is good as I have used it to install on other computer.
I was able to install Linux Mint but I'd really prefer LITE - unless someone has a suggestion for a linux version that would be good on an old slow laptop. I ONLY use it for occasional travel and it would be used for internet access only. It can be bare bones. I just prefer a quick boot up etc.
Maybe Puppy Linux?
Here is what I get when I try to boot to the USB drive

This means GRUB loaded but couldn't find its config file (grub.cfg) or the boot partition — it dropped to the rescue-style grub> prompt instead of showing the normal boot menu.
Common causes:
Bad USB write — the ISO wasn't written correctly (interrupted download, corrupted ISO, or wrong write mode)
Wrong tool/mode used — writing the ISO as a data copy instead of a proper bootable image (e.g. using cp/drag-and-drop instead of dd or Rufus/Etcher in DD/ISO mode)
USB drive not detected properly — BIOS/UEFI mismatch (booting a UEFI-mode entry against a BIOS-only write, or vice versa)
Corrupted or incomplete ISO download — checksum mismatch
Fastest fix: re-download the Linux Lite ISO, verify its checksum, and re-flash the USB with balenaEtcher or dd (not a simple file copy).
One of these will be the culprit. Work through each on until you reach the solution.

The last time I tried to install Etcher I managed to fail the install and mess up my system. And I noticed it is not available in the list of Lite Software programs.
I am looking for tips on downloading and installing Etcher - eternal beginner here. Can I do it by terminal?

My post is about getting help with loading LINUX LITE onto a laptop.

This worked. Thanks.
FYI - First I tried LL 8.0 but the install failed. Then I tried 7.8 and it installed fine.
