Multiple suggestions, maybe some are impossible :
1. ask interactively to install it (in the installer when installing permanently)
2. Detect if running in virtual machine and ask to install it or
3. execute it automatically when running from live USB in a VM
4. add it in Lite Softwares as an option.

I dont use virtualbox.
[member=7644]DeepThought[/member] I run a dual boot with windows 10 on my laptop and windows beats LL when it comes to booting. Not by much but it does boot faster. I use windows 10 only for my genealogical research.

It has frustrated quite a few people, judging by a look back at the number of threads pointing to the uninstall VBox and uncheck it in the Startup menu solution.
While I understand that it makes it easier for reviewers, it's definitely not easier on typical users.

I have many virtual machines all running LL inside LL. Works like Qubes OS but more user friendly and better harware support. By the way never got Qubes working always random errors (not supported). This also enables possibility for deniable encryption by putting vdi files inside veracrypt encrypted drive. (encryption is legal in Finland)

ootb -- Maybe not..
I use VB on LL for somethings but I can install as needed.. Thus far Lite Software works fine for this...
Do I use LL in a VB - not often, on occasion.. Perhaps on the Install Splash screen an option for virtualized support??
Thinking of options to keep it included... If not additional work.
But it does seem to be a common theme to post the removal...
