Automatic Upgrades in Series 3.x
#11
Another question, please, about the upgrade process in series 2 and series 3: does it reinstall applications that have been uninstalled?  For instance, I have replaced Firefox with Chromium and I prefer Timeshift to Systemback - will they be reinstalled if I upgrade?

@bobw only programs that have been added to Lite Upgrade will be reinstalled, eg. Firefox is not put of Lite Upgrade, therefore it won't be reinstalled. Systemback was added to Lite Upgrade, therefore it will be reinstalled.

Thanks Jerry.  I assume the difference is that Firefox was part of the base version of series 2, ie 2.0, whereas Systemback was added in a later version.  Is that the general principle, therefore Systemback would not be reinstalled when 3.0 is upraded to 3.2?

Hi Guys, I'm trying to update my Linulite 3.0 to 3.2 but using MENU-INSTALL UPDATES doesn't seem to be working for me.

Any help / suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Tried it but it will just display a window that say "The next system upgrade will be available on 1st November 2016." and then nothing will happen.  Sad

When I try Menu-Install Updates, it will update the different programs / files in the system but it won't upgrade it to 3.2.

Since it is a release based version like Ubuntu, every version level update (such as 2x to 3x) would be similar to a fresh install
-- I  prefer to use apt-get (or just apt(Ubuntu style) upgrade and then apt-get dist upgrade to get the latest versions of installed

For instance, I usually end up changing a lot of the installed programs and removing stuff I don't need,
--examples: wifi, x-servers, bluetooth, compiz , adobe flash and so on

I also tend to use apt on the command line, since I usually don't find distro package managers any more useful than the standby Synaptic, unless I am really just meandering through to see what might be available; and even then often enough just by looking through the sections list that Synaptic has, I can see lots of programs to discover or different versions of ones I already use..

I have no problems with linuxlite style of upgrading/updating, it is fairly normal for version(release) based distros

Windows 10, of course is massively intrusive and forces updates no matter how the user sees it or how it can be delayed, but not controlled
--hence, being a long time Linux user, and seeing no need for windows OS any (10x etc ), I just keep going and going and going with little if any issues or problems in almost any linux disto
just like the Rabbit commercial, battery power
By the way, I do find linuxlite nice and quick(fast0 and if I do upgrade my computer, it would only to make it more multitaskable (+RAM +faster GPU + faster CPU), but at the moment even with 2GB RAM and an older CPU (AMD Athlon-64)and older video car (GT660)
--it is more than efficient and capable  for most anything I need to do..
