Thanks Jerry for a wonderful distro, love the new modern look, plus the Shotwell that comes bundled with it. That is so cool! I installed 4.0 on my laptop and have been familiarizing myself with the new version. The installation process worked fine, although in the earliest part of it there were messages saying that IRQ client was not available (or something along those lines). It still installed just fine though. While shutting down immediately after 4.0 install (in order to re-start the system under the fresh 4.0), I got a rather long and scary-looking list of errors, most of them said SQUASHFS error and print_req_error. I waited but nothing more seemed to be progressing, so I force-shut-down the machine using the on-off button on the laptop. I had no problems starting it back up after that, it booted straight into the newly-installed LL 4.0 without any complaints.

In case you are wondering, before installing, I had checked the downloaded iso using md5sum, and it matched that given on the download page. I burned the image using the dd command.

I loved the new default icon set that came bundled (Papirus), although I installed the Yosa icon set after install, it's a similarly modern design but I personally liked the Yosa set - its very similar and still flat but not quite as totally flat, if that helps describe it. Certainly I like the new Papirus icon set in LL 4.0 better than previous icons. I'm so ridiculously picky about icons, I swear I spent longer messing around with icons than with everything else combined for the new install!

I also removed virtualbox as described in the release announcements. This significantly cut the otherwise-long bootup time down to a brief 53 seconds from pressing the on button to getting the login screen.  8)  ;D (There is a negligible amount of additional time from entering password in login screen to arriving at desktop that I didn't count). Considering how how my laptop only has 2G of RAM and is about 5 years old, getting it down to 53 seconds was impressive, thanks Jerry. I feel like that is much faster than what it was on 3.8, although I didn't actually time it on 3.8.

After customizing my desktop settings and my browser preferences, I also added two family members as users, basing their settings on mine by copying my settings into their directories. I then invited the family members to customize their own settings manually via the GUI as desired (they both changed their background wallpaper - thanks for the great wallpapers to pick from). Done and done!

Donation sent.  Thanks for a great distro!

Right now it's just the laptop on 4.0; my main machine that I use for most of what I do (the one in my profile specs) is still on 3.8. This is because it's currently a very busy time of year for me, and besides the install I know I will be needing extra time to install additional Linux software on my main machine for the types of things I do, so I will probably just stick to 3.8 for now. I have a loose plan to install new LL on that machine when 4.2 comes out, which fortunately would come at not quite such a hectic time. Unless of course the temptation to install 4.0 before that becomes too great, which it may....!
Using Linux Lite for everything now. I put it on my desktop and my laptop. Woohoo!

@JesusLinux did you check the md5sum and how did you burn the image?

Yes, I used the dd command in the terminal.

It is known that Ubuntu 18.04 has errors, therefore LL will also have them, despite the effort of the LL team so that LL is as stable as possible. At the moment I advise to stay in LL 3.8 that works very well or why not, migrate to Debian. MX Linux is a stable and very good distro, another that I tested recently and I was surprised is Emmabuntus, based on Debian 9.4, simply stable and with many applications. So, friends, do not get complicated and use other alternatives that work very well and give Ubuntu 18.04 time to improve and solve their problems.  ;)

@JesusLinux so you're still having issues after applying the performance tips in the Announcement?

I didn't apply anything since I couldn't install it!
The installation process gave an error.
[Erron5] Input/Output error.

Just like TMG1961 posted on the photo.

I'm using Manjaro...

Mmm... Manjaro sounds nice. The distro has been on DistroWatch top for about a week now and left even Mint behind.  8)

It's working. No problems installing an updating.
Since I was running LL3.2 (32bits) and I wanted to move to 64bits distro since the CPU supports 64bits, it came down to:
-LL 4.0
-Linuxmint 18.3
-Manjaro
All Xfce DE
I made 3 USB sticks using the dd command to test them Live on the same laptop.
LL 4.0 is the slowest to boot live and consumes more RAM than the other 2.
Linuxmint worked great but I read in the forum that Linuxmint 19.0 is coming out in the next months, so I was afraid I had to fresh install again.
Then Manjaro with the best boot screen where you can configure keyboard layout (for exemple), runs as well as Linuxmint.

After the live tests I made I decided to fresh install LL 4.0 since I'm signed in in the forum and for being familiar (xfce DE is all the same give or take) and so.
I have nothing important in this laptop so I didn't backup.
LL 4.0 gave me the error descrided above and left my old laptop with no OS.
So I turned to Manjaro and it lives again.
I intend to dual boot in the near future with either LL4.0 when the problems get fixed or Linuxmint 19 when it comes out.

It's this kind of experiences that either make you stick with a distro or move to other.

Just an FYI for folks, if you're now running 4.0, to update your Signature and or Forum profile.
