  No Sound on Linux 1.08
Posted by: ne8j - 05-10-2014, 10:22 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

Hi:
I tried for several days to try and solve this problem.  I really thank everyone who tried to help.  The end result is I purchased a set of USB speakers.  They worked right out of the box.  All you have to do is plug them in and open Pulse Volume Control and make the USB audio your default.

Also, I having trouble setting up the sounds for when you open and lose programs etc.  I know where to do it, but it says it needs to be supported by candberra.  Where do I find CANDBERRA,

Thanks..everyone!!!

  Installing on a USB Drive
Posted by: Giuseppe_Chillemi - 05-10-2014, 09:32 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (10)

Hi,
as we use old Clients whose hard drive is the most faulty component we would like have a USB installation we can move to a different PC anytime.

We have a few questions:

Is it possible to install on a USB KEY and have writeable for normal operations as a regular partition ?

Is the Linux Lite installation hardware dependent in some way ? Lets us explain better: we don't know if drivers are dinamically loaded at boot or they are "fixed" during the installation.

Thanks in advance

  Our Experience and linux lite
Posted by: Giuseppe_Chillemi - 05-10-2014, 09:25 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (3)

Hi,
as written in my introduction, I have 5 clients running linux lite.
All of them are used to connect to our Server 2008 via RDP

The network is configured with only one fixed IP address assigned to the server.

Installing the system is really easy. You put the live CD on it, partition the drive and run installation.

From time to time we need new clients as old on usually fail in some area. The most faulty component is the hard drive.

Due to this reason it would be really great if we could install Linux Lite on USB Key, configure it and have it always ready to run simply moving the USB Key.

I will start a different topic for this question on a different area.
The default software we install on every client is
  Skype
  Remmina

We have encountered few issues with the Remmina client:

The Key LCTRL, LALT, and @ are not working. The numeric / prints "-".
This creates many problems with our daily work. A workaround has not been found.

In the future we will install and try more software.
We will need an SIP client and some office software.

Our client PC are at least Pentium4. I don't know if anything less would work.

Thanks to the authors of the distribution. I hope we could help improve your project with our daily experience.

  Regards,
    Giuseppe Chillemi

  My company and linux lite
Posted by: Giuseppe_Chillemi - 05-10-2014, 08:48 PM - Forum: Introductions - Replies (3)

Hi,
I am starting to remove windows from my company.
Actually, only the central server has Windows 2008. All client but one are Linux Lite based and they access the server via RDP
  I have tried everything:

Ubuntu (too slow)
Xubuntu (on one client I have had video problems)
Linux mint (not working on some PC)
Thinstation linux (few problems)
Luninux (some boot problems)
DSLinux (too old)

Linux lite worked everywhere but one PC whose RAID on baord controller is not supported and Bios if forced to boot from it.

I have an amiga background and I find in it something familiar... I don't know why.

I would likely donate to the project and I'll do this soon.

Now I am here to become a Pro user of Linux Lite with your help.

Hope this project will last forever.

When Might We Expect Linux Lite 2.0?
Posted by: UncommonValues - 05-09-2014, 12:40 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (4)

I am a big fan of Linux Lite.  Great distro.  Very reliable and very user friendly.  Just curious as to whether there is any kind of projected time line for the release of 2.0!  Big Grin

Posted by: joeblow9104 - 05-08-2014, 07:19 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (1)

hello everyone!
I've installed xp and linuxlite on my machine (on diff partitions of the same HD) and I'd like to change the default OS to be XP as opposed to linux for the time being. Right now, it's set to linux. Is there a user-friendly way to accomplish this?
Thanks for the help.

  Cannot CD ROM
Posted by: gambesq - 05-08-2014, 04:25 PM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - No Replies

hello, I am new to linux and after I installed linux lite, I cant see my CDROM nor I can mount it.

cat /etc/fstab
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a
# device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices
# that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
#
# <file system> <mount point>  <type>  <options>      <dump>  <pass>
proc            /proc          proc    nodev,noexec,nosuid 0      0
# / was on /dev/sda1 during installation
UUID=e37dab9a-2550-4c62-a902-d07da612a344    ext4 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1
# swap was on /dev/sda5 during installation
UUID=28d10c49-5f91-4519-b1f8-2fbc1fd6a75d none            swap    sw              0      0

I have tried all instructions on different posts but nothing seems to work for me. Please help me

Is The Growth of ANDROID OS a threat to Linux - malware etc?
Posted by: newtusmaximus - 05-08-2014, 01:12 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (4)

With hackers etc. targeting the popular OS and browsers etc, MS Windows and associated software have been the target of malware, viruses etc.  Android OS is now the next obvious target with all the mobile internet of things- phones, tablets Chromebooks etc.  Isn't Android based on linux, and if so, will that eventually make linux OS flavours  more vulnerable i.e risking the safety of linux as an OS.

I understand that there are some MAC OS viruses - because of the market share of IPADs?

  FSLINT via Synaptic
Posted by: newtusmaximus - 05-08-2014, 10:26 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (3)

Have downloaded the FSLINT from "ALL" on  Synaptic.
Got the following synaptic report  after downloading all  dependencies etc.

"W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m...e1_all.deb
  404  Not Found [IP: 91.189.88.153 80]

W: Failed to fetch http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/m...1_i386.deb

However Synaptic shows green box after download and appears to be working.

Done the Broken Packages routine and again failed to download those missing. "generic kernel headers and image" ??

QUESTION

What is the significance of the report above and does it make the use of the fslint "as is" unsafe/unreliable.

Thanks.
