				Hello All,
I have a Toshiba 64GB USB drive formatted as Fat32 that's full of picture and video files.
The data was copied to it from a Mac, when first plugging it in it mounted ok but none of the video or image files were visible/readable even though Thunar showed the drive was full.

So I opened Gparted, unmounted it, started a Check but after a few seconds Gparted crashes out & closes.
It wouldn't mount again after that & any further attempts with Gparted resulted in the same crash, so I tried 'sudo fsck' through the terminal but that wouldn't work, kept saying the media was mounted when it wasn't.
I ended up plugging it into a Vista machine and using chkdsk on it & managed to get it so it would mount again.

Lol, now I have a USB full of files named 'FSCK0819.REC' etc., all the image files are ok, just the extension had to be changed back to .jpg, some of the video files the same, work fine after an extension change but most of the video files are listed as unknown and won't play after an extension change even though the sizes of the files seem to be about correct.
It appears the crash with Gparted has caused it somehow, Avidemux won't open them, VLC won't play them even though it appears to open them, nothing happens.
Gparted still crashes out if I try doing a check again on this USB drive.

Can this be easily fixed so these videos are usable again?
Or is it not worth the effort?
From what I've been reading it sounds like it's not worth the effort or possibly they can't be recovered anyway but I don't understand much about this sort of issue.

 Thanks.

I love this distro.  I was trying to upgrade from Zorin 7 to Zorin 9, and, I dunno, maybe my Acer Aspire doesn't meet the requirements, but after trying to burn the iso file several times...well, lets just say, I was able to boot into the live session (of Zorin 9) but just could not get it to install. So, i decided to try something new. Linux Lite 2.0 installed the first time, no headaches, no "installer failed" messages, and system updates went through flawlessly. I'm very impressed with the ease of installation and also with how stable it is, plus it's quite responsive, given that my hardware is on the low end of the laptop spectrum. Thanks!  ;D |

| [SOLVED] Nvidia Geforce 8400GS Rev.3 - Driver |

Hello,I installed this PCI graphics card Geforce 8400GS Rev.3 recently as it is 512MB, the previous one was 64MB (Nvidia Geforce MX400).
I also made an error in update choice that altered the splash, Valtam pointed me in the direction of the solution :-) I followed that thread and had help from members, this resolved that.
There still appeared errors relating to "X.Org Desktop is missing", around a window the edge to left and right, including such as the text box I am entering this in, had wiggly moving lines.
I followed the help manual and changed the driver to "X.Org Nouveau", the wiggly lines on window panes have now stopped.
Playing video would then crash the OS and send error reports X4 or sometimes X5 to Ubuntu on reboot.
I looked through this forum and found this thread - https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/index.php?topic=84.0
Valtam wrote - "I take it you have already tried to load a driver? If so you'll need to remove it.
Press: Ctrl+Alt+F1 this will drop you to a tty screen, if you need to, login. Then type in: sudo service lightdm stop
Now do: sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia-* then sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Then do: sudo apt-get install nvidia-current then sudo reboot"

Although the problem I have may be different, I realized I also needed to remove the Nvidia driver and application correctly, the driver I had installed was the tested Nvidia Driver, I also tried the legacy driver.
I followed Valtams instructions above this far -
"Press: Ctrl+Alt+F1 this will drop you to a tty screen, if you need to, login.
Then type in: sudo service lightdm stop
Now do: sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia-*"
(I missed out the following steps as I was unsure if they were for my instance).
I then followed the instructions "sudo reboot"
This has solved the problem of the crash when trying to playback video and it has also solved the problem of error reports asking to be sent to Ubuntu, in addition to the cause by its removing the Nvidia driver and application.
Although video playback doesn't crash it is blocky with artefacts and stops/starts.

The problem I need help with is twofold, and may well be related, I am asking for help ontopic for this forum #1 below -
1/ I need help/advice with a driver that will allow video playback with this graphics card.
For reference in case this helps
2/ A black screen appears on shutdown this states -
 "Stopping ClamAV
 Starting lightdm [OK]
 Plymouth is up [OK]"
#2 does not seem to be problematic at this time, I mention as it is not a usual shutdown screen and didn't appear until I made errors. I do not know yet if solving the driver problem will solve this too, similar to removing Nvidia and changing driver solved the Ubuntu splash.

Sorry it is long winded, I am trying to give as much information as I have, and state what I have done/tried so far, to hopefully save time of members who may be able to help.

| Dual Booting LL 2.0 with other Ubuntu (14.04) based distros |

Like a few of you, I have tried to dual boot LL 2.0 with other closely related distros, i.e. based on the Ubuntu 14.04 - when I choose LL 2.0 from the choice presented on the screen at boot-up, I get an error message that says "a filename was expected". In contrast, the previous LL 1.0.8 version does dual boot smoothly with other distros. Apparently, from reading elsewhere on this forum, it appears the problem has arisen from version 2 being adapted to dual boot more smoothly with Windows 7 or XP which has consequently made it incompatible with dual boots with other distros. Personally, I prefer running XP or Win 7 in a virtual machine, rather than dual booting because (1) it's quicker (I don't have to reboot in order to change the OS), and (2) I have been able to share files using a network link between the linux host and the MS Windows guest.
I am a newbie to Linux (post Win XP) though am becoming increasingly familiar with the use of basic command line in the terminal. I wondered if  someone could give myself and other newbies easy step-by-step instructions on how to modify the relevant root files or other files in LL 2.0 so that it is compatible with other Ubuntu 14.04 based distros in a dual boot situation.  Would it be possible to do this before you pull the plug on LL 1.0.8 support in the next few days?  I would be so grateful to anyone able to do this...

 Kind regards
 Mike

				Hi all,
I've been trying to get the windows to tile and have that snap effect so that i can have two windows side by side. This feature is available in every other xfce distro like xubuntu, linux mint xfce, etc. Wondering why it does not work in LL and how to fix it. Here is a video on this too for xubuntu-

| How to setup display panning |

This might be usefull for those with small screens.Output will be similar to this:If you follow this tutorial you can setup a virtual screen that is bigger than your physical screen.
So, it's like you have a zoomed in screen and you move from one corner to another when you position your mouse to the screen edge.
First test your display screen size, device, available resolutions and refresh rates.

From this you can see I'm using VGA-0 as my primary display device and 1920x1080 resolution with 60Hz refresh rate.Code: Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 16384 x 16384DVI-I-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
 VGA-0 connected primary 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 477mm x 268mm
 1920x1080      60.0*+
 1680x1050      60.0
 1280x1024      75.0     60.0
 1152x864       75.0
 1024x768       75.0     60.0
 800x600        75.0     60.3
 640x480        75.0     59.9
DVI-I-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
If you are using laptop or netbook, your device will probably be LVDS.
Lets say I want to use 2100x2100 virtual screen size.
 I can set this with

--rate sets refresh rateCode: xrandr --output VGA-0 --rate 60 --mode 1920x1080 --fb 2100x2100 --panning 2100x2100
--mode sets physical screen resolution, set it to your default screen resolution
 Important
on't use resolutions or refresh rates your monitor don't support for your physical screen! --output for me is VGA-0, change it to your device for example LVDS
 --fb sets virtal screen size
 --panning sets panning area
--fb and -- panning are tipically the same values
If I want to switch back I will use this

Note that this will not be saved to your configuration, so the next time you log it won't be applied.Code: xrandr --output VGA-0 --rate 60 --mode 1920x1080 --fb 1920x1080 --panning 1920x1080
If you want to save it you must create a file .xprofile in your home directory and make it executable.

 Code: printf "xrandr --output VGA-0 --rate 60 --mode 1920x1080 --fb 2100x2100 --panning 2100x2100" > ~/.xprofile
This never happened to me but just in case:Code: chmod +x ~/.xprofile
If OS fails to start GUI press f7 while it's booting up, login as root and delete .xprofile
 rm -f ~/.xprofile
