I installed the full version about 2 weeks ago and everything has been good. Now when I boot all I get is a black screen with the mouse cursor present and working. After reading an earlier post on the same topic I did the following. It is dual boot system with the windows side working fine.

I cannot register for this forum under the account I wanted to. I set up everything and was waiting on the verification email. I've clicked to have that email resent to me six to a dozen times and I still haven't received it. It isn't in a junk or spam folder or even a trash folder. I've checked.
The account I wanted to use was with my hotmail email. I'm able to write this because I connected with a social networking account. I can't log into that social networking account from work. Therefore, I wouldn't be able to access this forum during the day. I can get to this forum if I were allowed to type in the username and password that I created with my hotmail account. I just need the darned verification email to arrive.

I finally decided that the solution to my growing list of problems was to upgrade, and have done a new and clean install of LL 2.4 on my laptop.
My first problem is that Dropbox is not working, for reasons I haven't experienced before. Nothing seems to be happening and I keep getting an 'authentication is needed to run /usr/bin/dropbox' as the super user message, a step I have never seen before and also appeared the first time I ran Skype on the new install. I hope this is something that won't have to be done every run-time, but for Dropbox, nothing satisfies it - my authentication just causes the error message to reappear some seconds later.
Is something misconfigured or wrong with the new install?
I have installed MP3gain using Synaptic from the repository -
It appears to be loaded but I cannot find it in the menu -
If I type MP3gain in the Menu search I get an option to" Run MP3gain" but nothing happens .
Am I missing something

So I think this is the fifth time i reinstalled LL 2.4 trying to solve my issue.
I have an Intel HDA ALC268 sound card on a Toshiba Satellite p200. On any Ubuntu/Debian based distro (LL included) I installed, the headphones won't work, while the speakers work just fine. I searched forums, documentation, installed the realtek linux driver, tried all that alsamixer - pulseaudio advice, on this last LL 2.4 fresh install I even installed the 3.15 kernel from here https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/insta...te-kernel/ .
Nothing, headphones don't work. I'm out of options. I was planning on making LL 2.4 my base OS, instead of Windows, but because of this issue I've delayed that.
I tried both Caffeine and Caffeine-Plus.
Neither of them works in LL.
Is there an equivalent program that functions as intended?

I have a question about monitoring internet activity, while using LL2.4
I would like to introduce Linux Lite to the younger members of our family though, before doing so, wish to have some kind of parental controls in place, similar to the ones I've already set up in Win7 using 'Windows Live Family Safety'.
Is there a linux equivalent that can monitor your child's internet usage, i.e. track URL's visited ?

The proprietary option in Driver Manager is 331.113.
Nvidia says the latest driver for linux is 346.59 or 346.72.
I prefer 346.59.
Is there an easy way to upgrade to 346.59?
