Am not sure why but I've spent ages trying to hear sound through my speakers with LL, can even watch the indicator bars moving in "Sound Settings".
I've installed virtually every distro in the past on the same box and they all seem to play audio OK with Alsa, so I followed a previous posters advice and unchecked the 'Pulse Audio' box.
(see Thera posting Aug 5 2014  Stopping Pulseaudio:

"Or maybe: Menu->Settings->Settings-manager->System->Session and Startup->Tab Application and autostart->scroll to Pulseaudio.")
)

This also worked for me....but would anyone know why? Hopefully it might help admins.

Tom

I'm using LL 2.8 64-bit. I recently purchased a Kobo touch ereader and wanted to know if there's a way to install it's desktop app in Linux?

I can't remember who posted the original question so here's a new thread with a quick and easy fix.

Scenario: You have more than one user account on your Linux Lite machine and now you want to change someone elses account details.

If you are the primary user and have admin (sudo) rights, open a terminal and do:

Code:
sudo chfn person

where person is the other account login name.

I am only simple user, not proficient. I have lost a desktop after I logged in. I can see only black screen, otherwise system is functioning and I can see status bar, and I can access desktop through folders tree.

:Smile Near the end of January my venerable HP Pavilion decided to go off to that great motherboard in the sky. Had a power outage, though the system was on a UPS, shut it down normally, all was good, I thought. Tried bringing it up later, nada, goose egg, big fat zero, you get the idea. The power supply would flash for a second and nothing. Checking the back revealed that even the LEDs for the network connection had gone dark, having transmitted and received their last packets. The good news was that the orderly shutdown should mean that the data on the hard disk was still okay (it is).

The problem I've got now is that after much perusing of systems, reading umpteen reviews, I finally opted for a custom built PC from a vendor in Missouri: nice job, great work. You can go down the whole list from case to CPU to motherboard, GPU card, memory, and so on and so on. Sweet.

I had them install Ubuntu 15.x on what I had thought would be a secondary hard drive so that they could test the machine with a running O/S. When I boot the latest version it sees the network fine. Boot Linux Lite and nothing. Contacted the vendor about it and was advised:

On the ethernet the only way we can get Ubuntu to work is if we install the latest version.  This board just came out in September so any OS made prior to that won’t have the drivers built in.

Gigabyte’s site is not showing any Linux drivers available.

As Pinky, of "Pinky and The Brain" cartoon fame would say, "Narf!"

Knowing that Linux Lite is built on the LTS releases, does it just make more sense for me at this point to switch to the latest Ubuntu (using xfce) after moving everything over from the Linux Lite disk, or does anybody have another idea?

Thanks in advance.

Yet another Linux Trojan to watch for.  "http://www.pcworld.com/article/3033229/security/russian-cyberspy-group-uses-simple-yet-effective-linux-trojan.html" />
A natural extension of this exposure is increased targeting by both dedicated and opportunistic attackers across various malicious actor motivations. Despite the lingering belief (and false sense of security) that Linux inherently yields higher degrees of protection from malicious actors, Linux malware and vulnerabilities do exist and are in use by advanced adversaries. To mitigate associated risks requires tailored integration of the people, processes, and technology in support of prevention, monitoring, and detection within an environment.
Linux malware detection and prevention is not prevalent at this time, but Palo Alto Networks customers are protected through our next-generation security platform:
