Hi

Forgive me if I have it all wrong as I have been wrong in the past.

When I turn on more colums in the file manager I can see at my home folder that I have a group =localusername  eg gordon

but I am used to seeing me as a part of users.

so running

Quote: lite-usermanager
I have added myself to users group.

2) I need this as I use a non-standard data partition that I need to access as
Quote:/etc/fstab
does not accept localuser-name as an option but does accept
user (root) or users (group that local user can belong to)

cheers

Hi

clean install no updates no software removed then I run as root  and gui opens OK

Code:
root@asus:/home/gordon# lite-tweaks find: warning: you have specified the -maxdepth option after a non-option argument -type, but options are not positional (-maxdepth affects tests specified before it as well as those specified after it).  Please specify options before other arguments. cat: '/root/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-*.rc': No such file or directory ls: cannot access '/root/.local/share/Trash/files/': No such file or directory Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged.

looking at possible answers I get
Code:
find / -name whisker* /home/gordon/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-1.rc /var/lib/dpkg/info/whiskermenu.list /var/lib/dpkg/info/whiskermenu.md5sums /usr/share/xfce4/panel/plugins/whiskermenu.desktop /etc/skel/.config/xfce4/panel/whiskermenu-1.rc find: ‘/run/user/1000/gvfs’: Permission denied

IMHO looks trivial to fix the skel or root rc file

the max depth lines appear to be these
Code:
cat /usr/bin/lite-tweaks | grep maxdepth if [ "$(find /var/cache/apt/archives/ -maxdepth 1 -size +100k)" ];  then if [ "$(find /var/log -type f \( -iname \*.gz -o -iname \*.0 -o -iname \*.1 \) -maxdepth 100 -size +1k)" ];  then

Not that I am a coder so feel free to ignore my feedback

Hi

lite-welcome runs but if you run it from a terminal you can see an error at line 35 of script as follows

Code:
lite-welcome /usr/bin/lite-welcome:35: PyGIWarning: WebKit was imported without specifying a version first. Use gi.require_version('WebKit', '3.0') before import to ensure that the right version gets loaded.   from gi.repository import WebKit, Gtk Using /usr/share/litewelcome/ path. gordon@asus:~$

I repeat the gui appears but on next release you may like to specify the python version?

cheers

Went ahead and moved up from 2.8 installed 3.0. Glad it won't have to be done for another two years.  :Smile

1. Themes as posted at http://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/on-top.../#msg24260 Theme not working in KPatience but works in KMahjongg. May change to AisleRiot Solitaire because theme is working but do not like card styles and themes as well in KDE version.

2. Installed DMZ cursor (white) but size would not hold. Solved by going back to default cursor which had changed to white by theme choice. Sad

3. Radio Tray bug in Ubuntu 16.04 http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source...ug/1557115  Fixed by installing python-xdg with Synaptic.

4. Gnome-brave icons problem http://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/on-top...ns-in-3-0/

Just going to use Log Out xfce4-session-logout with [Image: logout.png]

5. Filelight http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=9887 confusing Firefox. I like the pie charts. But when click on where a download went in Firefox open Filelight view of the folder where it download was located. I'll just use "DisplayDisk Usage" in Lite Tweaks.

I do not think any of these problems are Linux Lite 3.0 but Ubuntu 16.04 problems. Hopefully they will be fixed by Ubuntu.  :-\

Installed LL3 and all was working well for a while. Then after various tweaking, now when I boot up after I type in the password the mouse cursor is there but the mouse (USB wired) is unresponsive. The notebook touchpad still works fine.  Unplugging/replugging the mouse resolves the issue but needless to say, this is not a usable workaround.  Any ideas how to get things back working again?  how to re-install the mouse drivers or sub-system?

Hi

3.0 64 bit fails to boot for me in normal or safe mode. I have taken some photos and IMHO it relate to an error in the squashfs but the trouble is no-one else is reporting errors  so not sure.

possible file to investigate is a script that attempts to use /root/var/crash/crash.init
probable reason no such file or folder......IMHO possible no touch of dir crash?

but on another boot attempt I get another error
[Image: 25rl2sj.jpg]

so then I attempt to check the disc via the boot menu but its not telling which file is wrong!

Weid thing is  the download md5sum is correct ....8d9e147d791b176089ed4218ba60d0d3

but when I attempt on Lubuntu distro to check all md5sums versus the txt file I get this error....other md5sums are all good

Code:
b5f7d77f378d67d297191d152ee577e7  ./casper/filesystem.squashfs # cd to pathway of file ....Linux Lite 3.0/casper$ md5sum filesystem.squashfs md5sum: filesystem.squashfs: Input/output error

^^  the top line is the line from your md5 txt file on the correct md5sum and the bottom line is my attempt to get that md5sum by navigating to that folder and running the command as shown

any clues?

cheers

Some days ago I tried hooking up a monitor to my Linux Lite laptop. After that, the screen has magically been set to lock itself after a few minutes. There's an option in Screensaver Preferences to "Lock Screen After X Minutes" but it's not checked, nor have I ever made this setting myself.

How do I remove the lock screen?

There's only one thing worse than watching a Youtube video with no sound, instructions via a text editor and constant spelling mistakes.

I am curious to have your opinions (with reasons) on whether you think there is anything to be gained (or not) by having Linux run in UEFI mode in modern PCs, either alone or within a Windows dual-boot, assuming the PC has the facility to select between either BIOS (CMS) or UEFI mode.

I myself am unsure and feel a bit inexperienced to have any firm opinion on this.  I had always assumed that having a signed Windows OS made it at least a bit more secure, particularly against potential malware attacks to the registery (though I suspect that Microsoft may possibly have exaggerated their claims for UEFI's protective effect as part of their marketing).

Quidsup, a network security analyst by profession, who posts regularly on his YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/quidsup,  estimates that antivirus/malware software is only 20% effective at most.  Apparently, malware in applications such as flashplayer is immune to antivirus software.  Incidentally, he describes Adobe Flashplayer as "having more security holes than a collander" for which his solution is simply to remove it  from your PC whether you have Windows or Linux...

Linux seems fairly robust against malware, though of course it's not entirely immune - I have had one incident of  malware infection (see https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/other...0/#msg4960).  In a dual-boot set-up, could some Windows malware crossover and infect Linux, e.g. through file-sharing - I have heard this might be the case and some malware can infect both platforms? Could UEFI have some beneficial effect here for Linux, in protecting the registry, as with Windows OS?

Many thanks for your views...

My Wifi connection is working, signal is strong, and connection stable and fast (after parameter experiments and changes I made - see prior post).
Now I'm seeing another problem of the Wifi bars not showing up, and the name of the connected AP also not showing up, even though I'm currently connected very well and fast I/O going on.  Even prior to updating my Realtek Wifi driver I saw the problem of the AP sometimes not showing up under the "Wi-Fi Network" label of the pop-down wifi menu (Panel bar).  I see the "disconnect" option there but not the name of the AP.

My system-info report file is attached
