  Installation Hang
Posted by: csquared_TX - 07-18-2016, 01:29 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (1)

Booting from Live DVD Linux Lite 3.0 hangs at splash screen and goes no further.  Computer is an old Sony Vaio with a Pentium "M" processor, 2 GB memory. Have wiped the HD for a clean install but am stuck at the splash screen when booting from live DVD.

Can't get .exe drivers to work in Wine
Posted by: Monkeyman - 07-18-2016, 12:00 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (6)

Just installed a new GPU and PSU.  Both have and/or need drivers/specific software that I'd like to install.  I can come up with .exe (Windows) files but can't open them (in Wine).  The ZIP file for the GPU ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814125792 ) extracts in it's own folder but shows an error when I try running the .exe file.  The ZIP file for the PSU ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6817139138 ) adds yet another .exe file but when I try to open that it says "Microsoft .NET framework" is required.  Can I assume (since I'm not running Windows) that there's no way around this?  This one isn't critical but would be very helpful (enabling me to control the PSU fan).

Any help/work arounds would be appreciated.

  UEFI BIOS?
Posted by: Monkeyman - 07-17-2016, 11:44 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (2)

I don't really understand the UEFI thing (I'm not as smart as I look Smile ).  All I think I know is that Jerry doesn't like it and LL doesn't use it?  I don't care one way or another but can I use a mobo with UEFI BIOS?  I'm about to order http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6813131874 and want to make sure I can use it.

  Good Mornin' this Sunday!

On my first cup of Seattle's Best #5 on this partly cloudy and beautiful day in my Pacific Northwest, and am appreciative of you, Kiwis and all, for developing LL 3.0!  It's the best rendition of 16.04 or, for that matter, any 'buntu I have seen since Lucid Lynx (having cut my teeth on Jaunty Jackalope).  I particularly like the lack of that mediocre burning software most 'buntu distro devs seem to favor!

Frankly, I had been disappointed in GNU/Linux since the intro of UEFI and systemd and was using strictly Puppy Slacko when going online or for my image work with GIMP.  This, on older laptops.  Lately , I am most impressed with only three distros for ease of use, performance and practicality -- antiX-16, the latest Vector, and Lite 3.0.  While Slacko remains the fallback distro, Lite has earned its place as primary installed distro on my SSD.

Keep up the good work as long as the worldly gov'ts that be allow!
