When will upgrade to 3.4 be available?
Posted by: Manuk - 04-03-2017, 01:41 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (8)

Running Lite 3.2 and have been checking "Lite Upgrade" application to see if 3.4 is available which I know is out there.  "Lite Upgrade" keeps telling me "You are already running the latest release."

Do I need to wait a few more days or upgrade by some other means?  I am absolutely in no rush because 3.2 is working just fine - it ain't broke.  I might skip upgrading to 3.4

Thanks

  Lite Updates Notify

[member=6629]ralphy[/member] have noticed a strange anomaly. If the file /usr/local/sbin/.updnotify exists, Lite Updates Notify will not show the desktop notification. If the /usr/local/sbin/.updnotify file does not exist, the notification works fine:

Regarding shared network connection HP Deskjet F4480 Printer
Posted by: chaosjs1 - 04-02-2017, 08:53 PM - Forum: Printing and Scanning - Replies (3)

Hello to all,  I am trying to setup a shared network connection between windows and linux where my HP Deskjet F4480 All in One Printer scanner copier in direct usb connected to a Linux Lite 3.4 32 bit System PC  and I am currently trying to get printer to communicate from windows to linux 32 bit and so far To no avail however the printer on the windows side plus the linux side to my knowledge is successfully connected and etc... So Any and all suggestions would be most helpful because at this point I am currently clueless as to what to do next to troubleshoot the problem at hand..  Also Just so you know as well I have tried on the windows side as microsoft has suggested that I do which is to uninstall my windows drivers regarding my printer and then reinstall them after restarting my computer and it still has not been communicating from the windows client side on Windows 10 x64 Home Edition version 1607 with all Windows updates to this point!  Thank in advance for all the support!.......

  join with cat
Posted by: torolite35 - 04-02-2017, 12:55 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (3)

Good afternoon, I'm trying to join 3 .VOB files
From the terminal and something I'm not doing well because they do not join.
I'm putting cat * .VOB> file.vob but it does not work
Let's see if they know (sure if given that I always receive a satisfactory answer in this forum) I'm mistaken.

Thank you very much.

  Linux Lite mentioned at Techradar
Posted by: JohnD - 04-02-2017, 12:45 AM - Forum: On Topic - No Replies

There is a short and very positive appraisal of Linux Lite at Techradar, it is mentioned as one of 10 in the article "10 of the best lightweight Linux distros".

Quote:[...] if you have a machine from the past 10 years with at least 1GB RAM inside you should find it a snappy, worthwhile option.

Try it on modern hardware and you'll be amazed at just how quick it runs. Given that it's just as happy running from USB media as it is installed on a hard drive – and, indeed, more than happy to run in a multi-boot configuration – it's a free burst of speed that's worth checking out.

After I've replaced a defect hd, I now have also installed Linux Lite. I've learned SuSE in 2000, 2001, but have not used it, because it won't accept a PC, which was accepted by Windows 95. In the last years I've passed a linux certificate from Webmasters Europe and tried or used for a longer time several distros: Debian, Linux Mint, LXLE, Parsix and other. Now I'm very happy with Linux Lite. It seems to be absolutely smooth and trouble-free. Cool stuff.  Smile

  Installer crash, but installation completed
Posted by: bonnevie - 04-02-2017, 12:29 AM - Forum: On Topic - No Replies

This forum is packed with useful tech resources when it comes to solving a problem.  Here's how my new 3.4 installation went today.
Installer was crashing everytime just before the end of the process, so I started poking around the LL forum. And thanks to an old Coastie post, I read that sometime LL ends up being installed anyway even after a crash message.  So I tried installing LL3.0 alongside LL2.8 on my 10-year old Compaq Notebook.
To be sure, the installer crashed but I also noticed that the partitioning was completed.  I couldn't check my Grub menu since I don't see it when I boot up. But again, thanks to a 2015 post here, I found out how to get back the Grub screen. And there it was!  LL 3.0 installed properly.  A bit of a rocky road, but the results make me very happy!  The last step, updating from 3.0 to 3.4 barely took 36 minutes and 522MB :-D
