Request for additional Nouveau drives in Repository - Ottawagrant - 05-06-2017 I have an Acer computer that, when it had Windows 7 on it, came with proprietary nVidia drivers. Here's the problem. The Nouveau driver with Linux Lite doesn't work. When you open up a web browser the system freezes & the graphics go crazy. The legacy nVidia driver (304) that you can add is OK, but not great. Graphics look washed out. When I install Xubuntu 16.04, or 17.04 the Nouveau driver that comes with that system work perfectly. As it & Linux Lite are both Ubuntu based, can those drivers be added to the Repository? Or perhaps a better question is, do they work with Linux Lite? Here's the information on that: Here is the Linux Lite Drivers: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0-12-1build2 Libdrm-nouveau2 2.4.70-1 ubuntu 16.04.1 Here are the Xubuntu 17.04 Drivers: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0-14-Oubuntu1 Libdrm-nouveau2 2.4.76-1 I have no idea if these drivers will work with Linux Lite, but as always, thanks for considering it. Re: Request for additional Nouveau drives in Repository - ralphy - 05-06-2017 Please try the Nouveau driver and make sure to install Restricted Extras from Lite Software. Re: Request for additional Nouveau drives in Repository - Ottawagrant - 05-06-2017 The nVidia driver for any Acer computer that uses the nVidia GeForce 6150se chipset is troublesome. Works perfectly well with Windows 7, but nVidia wouldn't make a new driver for it for Windows 10. There was a workaround where you could use the driver designed for Windows 8.1, but your DirectX runs at an older level. Not much I can say because the chipset is at EOL. Xubuntu is using the new 4.10 kernel & the graphics on the Acer look really good. The computer is running smooth, even with such a new kernel. Good back up computer, but it's back to day-to-day with LL on my other computers. Now that we have the new kernel installer in Lite Tweaks I'll have to play around with that for a while. Re: Request for additional Nouveau drives in Repository - Valtam - 05-07-2017 Please be aware of the following: 17.04 Ubuntu base is vastly different from 16.04 Linux Lite base. We simply cannot 'add' the two together. Ubuntu bases: 16.04, 17.04, 17.10 etc etc Cheers ![]() |
