  background image when booting
Posted by: clunga - 10-30-2017, 08:00 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - No Replies

Good morning to everybody.
I would like to personalize my LL and I noted that when booting, it appears a centered image of a feather on a yellow background. Could I know where this image ( I suppose a .png) is located in order to substitute it with a personalized image?
Thanks

  ASUS laptop restarts after Shutdown
Posted by: eikelein - 10-30-2017, 01:08 AM - Forum: Other - Replies (4)

This is a newbie question, sorry.
ASUS X54C laptop, Linux Lite 3.4 and 3.6 (both 32-bit).

EVERY time I Shutdown the system via the Logout [user] screen the machine automatically restarts with the short typical delay I would expect after I click on Restart. How can I stop this behavior?

If this question has been asked before I apologize; please point me to the correct remedy, thank you.

What's the risk using Systemback ?
Posted by: m654321 - 10-29-2017, 04:40 AM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (2)

It's well known on this forum that many of us love Systemback's simplicity and would ideally like to continue using it. However,  it will be apparently unsupported at some time in the future. I have some question about this:

1. When does official support for Systemback end - i.e. for how long can we continue to use it safely? For the duration of LL3 series? What about LL4?

2. Has anyone stepped-in to unofficially support Systemback?

3. Given the good malware resistance of Linux generally, what are the likely risks for home-users continuing to
    use Systemback?

Kernel notice - 6 kernels installed, recommended to remove 4.
Posted by: Vera - 10-28-2017, 11:24 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (4)

Hi, on my notifications it said "Kernel notice: you have 6 kernels installed. You may like to remove 4 using Lite Tweaks." (or something to that effect). I tried to find something about this in forums, but haven't had any luck. My questions are:
1). How did these 6 kernels get installed? I don't remember doing anything to specifically install extra kernels. I installed LL 3.4 then upgraded to 3.6. Does it install extra kernels as part of this process?
2). As per the recommended action, I looked in Lite Tweaks about this. It lists Kernel Remover as a task categorized as "Caution".  This makes me a little nervous. Is it indeed safe for me to go ahead and run the kernel remover?

Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  Useful reading

Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a nice life! Smile
I'd like to share this series of PDFs named Command & Conquer Special Editions 1-3  I downloaded a few days ago from full circle magazine site "the independent magazine for the Ubuntu Linux community" and I'm currently on the first pages of book 1. If you do download them I'll be more than happy to share thoughts and doubts with you regarding it's contents so we learn from each other...don't know, just an idea Smile

No progress window during updating process.
Posted by: justme2 - 10-28-2017, 03:48 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (8)

LL3.6 - Updates seem to work but after receiving the updates available list, I get no progress indication until the update finished message appears. Running updates again tells me that the system is up to date. Could it be that the progress window is somehow positioned  off screen due to a corrupted config file?

(Other update problems are in this section so I guess its OK to leave this here.)

dell venue 11 pro - Anyone using one
Posted by: newtusmaximus - 10-28-2017, 02:49 PM - Forum: On Topic - Replies (2)

Still looking for a way to have a linux based tablet
The Dell Venue Pro 11 seems to be a possible candidate to convert to linux but reports state the wireless driver can be a problem.
Just wondering whether anyone has tried LL on it?
These are now beginning to appear second hand at reasonable prices.

Thanks

http://www.studioteabag.com/science/dell...pro-linux/    interestingly came across this.  Not sure whether suitable for a linux newbie such as myself though?
would the smaller screen size be really be a problem??

  Tixati for linux
Posted by: Moltke - 10-28-2017, 12:47 PM - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (6)

Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a nice life! I just found out that Tixati has a Linux version. I have already installed it and it works just as great as it does in Windows. When I found this app in Windows it was so good to me cause I really wanted to ditch Utorrent and with tixati I finally did it. For those of you who've never used it and use to download stuff via torrents, I think you should definitely try it and you won't regret it Smile

  Ubuntu alert USN-3463-1 (python-werkzeug)
Posted by: Moltke - 10-27-2017, 03:58 AM - Forum: Security & Bug Fixes - Replies (5)

Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a nice life! Smile
I just found this while I was checking this site which I use to visit regularly and was wondering whether  if this Ubuntu Alert USN-3463-1 Werkzeug vulnerability is something we should worry about and if so, has it been taken care of already?.

The security bulletin  says:
A security issue affects these releases of Ubuntu and its derivatives:

- Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
- Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

It was discovered that Werkzeug did not properly handle certain web scripts. A remote attacker could use this to inject arbitrary code via a field that contains an exception message.

Update instructions: The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following package versions:

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS:
python-werkzeug          0.10.4+dfsg1-1ubuntu1.1
python3-werkzeug        0.10.4+dfsg1-1ubuntu1.1

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS:
python-werkzeug          0.9.4+dfsg-1.1ubuntu2.1
python3-werkzeug        0.9.4+dfsg-1.1ubuntu2.1

Should we follow instructions as detailed on the bulletin and install the suggested package or are we having a LL update to resolve that?
Thanks in advance for your answers! Smile
