To my amazement I have discovered that my Dell Inspiron desktop was designed NOT to be bootable UEFI.
(It is five years old and just sat for half that time, so has plenty of life left in it.)
I found this while trying over and over to migrate from Legacy to UEFI, so ended up at the Dell site, to
see an engineer had stated that the boot could not be changed as it was built to be that way.
(Well it explored a lot that this old man could not easily follow, and it does explain many misadventures I
have had trying other distros that would install but not reboot. (BEFORE Linux Lite!)
Will Linux Lite stay Legacy boot? Is there any other distro left that will, and maybe not ubuntu-based?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Currently have LL installed on a dual boot drive beside Windows 7. After looking at the Libre Office Apps they seem to be compatible with MS Office. So I'm curious of how many have completely eliminated their Windows partition and only use LL. In my case I have other Windows machines if I am forced or need it for an unsupported application. Happy to hear your thoughts.

No need to install spotify if you only use the free service with no need for off-line listening.
It works in the UK, but does it work worldwide?

I've been quite happy with the onboard Archive Manager, but I started looking for one that has the option of a single-click interface, to save my wrists a little work.
I didn't find one (suggestions are welcome), but in the search I did come across PeaZip, which has a nicer interface and a lot more options than the default AM.
The only thing lacking, from my perspective, beside single-click action, is shell integration. Some ways to do this are given - copying a desktop shortcut to the sbin folder, or copying scripts to the usr/local/share folder, but these have not worked for me. The prog is portable, yet it uses a .deb installer package, which I don't understand.
Here's an excerpt from its FreeDesktop folder:
Quote:With following instructions you can easily integrate PeaZip with Gnome and KDE:
1) Install a PeaZip installable package (DEB, RPM, TGZ), or extract PeaZip portable to the desired path and link peazip binary in one of the system's binary folder i.e. /bin, /sbin, /usr/bin, or /usr/local/bin (recommended)
2a) Gnome
- Nautilus scripts
Manually copy 'Archiving' folder, which is contained in 'nautilus-scripts', to your user's profile '.gnome2/nautilus-scripts' folder; that folder is hidden, so you can either find it flagging 'View>Show hidden files' in Nautilus, or clicking on 'Scripts>Open scripts folder' in Gnome's context menu.
This integration is NOT automatically performed by PeaZip installer, because nautilus-scripts path location is currently not widely standardized.
- .desktop files
Copy peazip.desktop files in /usr/share/applications
NOTE Gnome is often configured to use /usr/share/application and /usr/share/icons paths (i.e. on Ubuntu), but the paths may be different on some distribution or in some specific installations.
This integration is automatically performed by the installer.
Does anyone know a way to do this? Thanks.

Hi - A very newbie to Linux and LL.
I am booting LL from USB. The Clock time in the tray is showing 6 hours ahead. Obviously due to a time zone setting. Is there a graphical way to change this in settings? I don't see any indication of this and I am not a programmer and would refer not to write code. TIA

hi guys, my chrome installed on 32bit windows 7 stopped working, so I had to use Linux only for browsing as that I have 64bit Linux, but it appears that after searching that chrome stopped 32bit support, had to go to my B solution Opera Browser.

What happens if I break a Rule?
If you break a rule, then you will either be warned or banned. A ban of your user account may either be temporary or permanent.
The Administrator and Moderators also have the right to edit, delete, move or close any thread or post as they see necessary, without prior warning.

- Treat other members with the respect they deserve. This should go without saying, but treat others like you would like to be treated.
- All posts should be professional and courteous. You have every right to disagree with your fellow community members and explain your perspective. However, you are not free to attack, degrade, insult, or otherwise belittle them or the quality of this community. It does not matter what title or power you hold in these forums, you are expected to obey this rule.
- There will be no use of profanity.
- There will be no racial, ethnic, gender based insults or any other personal discriminations.
- There will be no public threads or posts airing grievances. If a post or thread is in breach of any of these Rules, you must use the 'Report to Moderator' tool in the offending thread.
- Users may not argue a Moderator decision publicly. Any and all complaints directed at a Moderator must first address the Moderator in question via PM. If the problem can not be resolved, then the Moderator and user must send their positions to the forum Admin. The forum Admin will make or change any and/or all final decisions.
- There will be no posts or private messages (pm's) meant to offend or hurt any other member, in a manner which is offensive or inflammatory.
- Spamming is not permitted; please keep all your posts as constructive as possible.
- In regards to supporting people, you can suggest that people read the Help Manual (sometimes referred to as RTFM) or 'Google it' providing you give that person a starting link to either.

- You must stay on topic in a given thread.
- Do not PM the Admin directly. You must utilize the Global or Local Moderating Staff here in the first instance (see Staff link above).
- There is to be no hijacking of other threads. If you have a problem that you need solved, please start your own thread unless it is exactly like the one being discussed.
- Pornography, Warez, illegal Torrent discussion, may NOT be linked in any shape or form.
- Drugs: This is an extremely difficult subject to manage - some drugs like Marijuana whilst it may be legal in one country, it may be illegal in another. This forum will aim to meet both views in the middle. If you are from a country where a drug is legal, you may discuss it, post a link to an image or video but it must be accompanied by the following disclaimer: 'The legality of this drug differs from country to country'. You cannot condone a drugs use or push your views onto others. Simply state the reason for your post. If you are in a country where a drug is illegal, you may not discuss it, post a link to an image or video. If you are replying to a post where a drug is legal in that posters country, do not engage in righteous rhetoric espousing your views. You have two choices, ignore the post or report it. Before you report a post, you must first ask what country that poster is in (if they have not already stated). This Forum is open minded and fair and does not take sides on this issue due to the numerous complexities it carries with it.
- Please refrain from posting the same question in several forum sections. There is normally one forum section which is most suitable in which to post your question.
- Do not send private messages to any users asking for help. If you need help, make a new thread in the appropriate forum then the whole community can help and benefit.
- All posts are property of the poster. This forum and all web sites owned in conjunction with this forum have the right to request alteration or deletion of any offensive post. Posts may be deleted for any reasons the forum Administrators deem reasonable.
- Pictures may be posted as long as they are not explicit or offensive.

Signatures should not contain antagonistic remarks or information, negative references to other members, nor should they contain links to porn or illegal software sites.
- Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other topics and see where your topic should go. If your topic is placed in the wrong forum, it will be moved by a Moderator.
- If a topic is recognized as being posted in the wrong forum, or if the post is a violation of our guidelines then please contact a Moderator either via PM or the 'Report to Moderator' feature; please do not respond publicly to the member - a member of staff will do what is required upon contact. Any person/s who attempt to present themselves as a Moderator by posting negatively to a member's topic (which has been posted in error and requires locking or moving to another forum) will be sent a PM warning and placed into moderation queue upon further actions.
- Any impersonation of a user from these forums, in any mode of communication, is strictly prohibited and will result in a banning.
- Only one account per person allowed. If you create another account to get around a PM block, you will be banned.
- When challenged to provide proof of your statement, you must provide proof of the facts you claim to make in the form of a URL link, a quote (in regards to quoting members on this Forum only) or legal document. Failure to do so is regarded as spreading misinformation and is considered a serious offense against the community. Members rely on information to make informed decisions. You can make claims, but you must back those claims with facts when asked to. A timely retraction on your behalf and an apology may help to avoid disciplinary action.
- Linked and locked topics are pruned regularly to reduce page clutter. If you have a question about where your topic went, please PM a Moderator or Administrator before starting a new topic asking where it went, or posting a duplicate of the original topic. We will be happy to provide you with a link to the new location, or a reason why it was locked and/or removed.
- Other Distros - there should not be any posts asking for help with other distros. This includes requests for basic support, requests for recommendations, comparisons, benchmarks and other common sense examples. In this Forum you will receive the help you need regarding Linux Lite but please do us the basic courtesy of posting in places on the internet where support for other distros is more specific like their user Forums or more broadly, places like Linux Questions dot org.
