I just reviewed the thread I started about my recent problems & would have liked to reply to the post by pterman "
And there's your problem right there: Inexperience and unwilling to put in any effort beyond moaning! No one else on here is reporting these issues so that leaves your inexperience as the culprit.
Firefox crashing is hardly the fault of any Linux distro, it has gotten worse over the last few years, particularly in its memory usage. Use Pale Moon which is closely related to Firefox, or Chrome/Chromium or even Vivaldi.
Your sound problem will be a simple mouse click away in the Pulseaudio panel, probably become muted for some reason. I have had this happen myself when I was running Makulu Linux.
As for things slowing down, you don't post your system specs so can't comment really. However, you do state your running 32 bit so I am assuming you're running a old system, these days don't expect to run a OS, or especially browse the web with any less than 1Gb of ram, you will still get slowdowns and crashes even with that!"but it has been locked. How do you ever expect to learn anything from the general public when you are too arrogant to allow them a response? This seems to epitomize Linux. It is created by experts for experts & anyone else are just lesser beings that are not catered for.......I am grateful for a free operating system but I still think you need to learn something about how to treat ordinary people  :-*

  CD ROM Issue
Posted by: penglezos - 11-12-2017, 03:58 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (4)

Dear Linux Lite community,

I hope you are doing all well. I have noticed a strange issue on both my computer's CD ROM and my uncle's. When I'm trying to put a cd/DVD on my player nothing happens. I double checked if my player is connected well and it is displaying right. My thoughts are if the permissions are not set right?
I'm really glad to share any information if needed.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Yours,
penglezos

  Something's wrong
Posted by: Moltke - 11-12-2017, 01:46 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (22)

Hi everyone! Hope you're all having a nice life! Smile
I'm having kind of an issue here. After upgrading my system and reboot I found that X doesn't start automatically; I get to the login screen to input my user and password - odd cause I'd enabled autologin - and after doing so it doesn't go further and I'm stuck looking at the mouse on the blue background. I have to do Ctrl+F1 to get into command line mode and run

Code:
$ startx
and I finally get to my desktop, apart from this everything seems to be working as it should.
Any help/guidance/advice is really appreciated Smile
Thanks in advance for your answers!

Linux Lite 3.6 will not recognize USB flash on 4 computers
Posted by: drcrkeller - 11-11-2017, 07:31 PM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - Replies (7)

Hello...I operate four dell desks tops and one acer laptop... I  have linux lite 3.6 on all of them...I am trying to switch to USB drives and not use disk...but each time I try to use the USB drive... all I get is a message that says the system does not see a flash drive and I need to re format...needless to say...I tried and tried... then ...when all else failed...I read the USB flash information which says it is not for linux...only windows.. what now...  must I buy an USB flash that is made for linux operating systems...? thanks.... Keller
If I go to Disks : I show my hard drive...the dvd drive....and two separate USB drives. When I try to use Unetbootin I get the message that no USB drive is seen...and suggest I reformat....

It might also be of importance to note: when I had linux lite  2.0 I used two different USB drives with no problem....so what did 3.6 change....?

  God I hate linux
Posted by: SICKOFLINUX - 11-10-2017, 10:05 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (10)

When I installed Linux Lite initially it went fine but with every update as usual with my experiences with Linux in general something deteriorated.Things stopped working it slowed down etc etc & the last year firefox has crashed continually. Now with the most recent update I can't get sound on the speakers & it really drives me nuts........I get the impression that whoever issues these 'updates' does not access their comparability,it stinks & I can't wait to revert to a windows based operating system. It really is more trouble than it is  worth.

Wifi configuration differs for two users
Posted by: fluffyMart - 11-10-2017, 09:03 AM - Forum: Network - Replies (1)

I have an up-to-date LL install on an older Dell laptop with two configured users: one "admin" user and a "normal" user. The laptop connects fine to the wifi at home for both users and it works well.

For the "normal" user, there's no list of available wifi connections when you click on the system tray icon. But there is a list of available connections for the "admin" user. Checking the user config dialog, I think the only significance difference between the two is that the "admin" user has sudo checked.

Have I missed something in my user setup, or (more likely) misconfigured something? I'd have thought it should be ok for any "normal" user to be able to configure an alternative wifi connection without having to resort to granting them sudo ???

Cheers, Mart

  Replacement start menu?
Posted by: JohnDoeIII504 - 11-10-2017, 01:36 AM - Forum: Desktop Customization - Replies (1)

Is there any replacement "start" menus for Linux Lite.  I like the OS, I'm just not a fan of the way the start menu is arranged.  And when I open the edit applications window, it feels buggy to me and I don't like the way it is setup.  I would prefer something that is fairly simple to use, but offers tons of customization options.  Any help is appreciated.  Thank you again, and have a great nice.

  Login with Pin like Windows?
Posted by: JohnDoeIII504 - 11-10-2017, 01:32 AM - Forum: Security & Bug Fixes - Replies (3)

Is it possible to set up a pin to login, like you can do on Windows 10.  Would be much easier than having to type my password every time I lock it and when I go to logon every time.  Any help regarding this is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.
