| Two linuxlites installs on one hard drive – is it possible? |

– I'm trying to install linuxlite on one partition for web browsing and the second for testing and learning software. This includes: wine, windows apps and downloaded .deb packages. The second OS boots up, but the first won’t. After using systemback’s boot repair on the first os, it boots up, but not the second OS. Don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but would appreciate any ideas you have.
I have installed and learned a lot of apps, customized LL, fixed things when they break, plus have done a lot of cut and paste into the terminal, but stuck on this one.
This is how it’s gone so far:
What hasn’t worked:
- using gparted to change one of the os’s uuid number & file system label;
- I’ve used systemback boot repair to change the order of the os’s on the grub menu.
Resources: - Question: What symbol in the LL install wizard will install it to the root partition instead of the mbr? The / symbol is what I use on the first and second installs of LL. (question asked about the following forum page)
“When installing other distros after LL,
direct their grub boot loader installation to their Root partitions
instead of the drive's MBR.”

| Lite 3.8 x64 issue |

Install went fine. Or so I thought. First reboot, no grub. Installed grub from live usb. System booted fine. Installed the apps and Nvidia prop. driver, rebooted, Everything working fine. Shut down system and ran a few errands. Come back, turn the computer on, signed in, no xfce4 panel. No right click. Wallpaper and mouse showing. Can even move the mouse around. But, the desktop is dead. Hard shut down. Load into live usb, Google searched the issue. Find an issue from 2012, tried it, didn't work. Reinstalled and on reboot, I have grub. Desktop loads up after login, desktop is dead. Xfce4 panel is there, but am not able to click anything. Grab my Lite 3.6 flash drive, reinstall and my system is stable again.
Anyway, 3.8 is a bust for me. I'm not looking for help on this, just informing. I'll stick to 3.6 until the next release or until there's a bug fix release.

I was 'road testing" Solus Budgie just to check it out. I wrote it to a DVD using Xfburn. My test computer and main computer would not boot from the DVD so I tried to blank the DVD. Sometimes the Xfburn would not recognize the DVD. Sometimes it would recognize the DVD and said it was a blank DVD. When Xfburn would let me try to blank or format the DVD, it fails and gives this message: "Failure: Asynchronous SCSI error : [3 51 00] Medium error. Erase failure."
The test computer and my main computer both do as described above. My iMac just ejects the DVD. I installed k3b burner on the test computer and it doesn't recognize the DVD either. When one of the Linux computer's file manager (Thunar) recognized it showed it has Solus on it.
Has Solus killed my DVD or is there a fix for it? :-\

| Random Passwords Anyone ? |

Hello,
here is a function for making random passwords. It works for the session you are in, and will need re-adding in a new session, eg you can close and open terminal and randpw will work but if you reboot you need to re-add the function.
Code: randpw(){ < /dev/urandom tr -dc _A-Z-a-z-0-9 | head -c${1:-16};echo;}
If you copy/paste this (or type it) into your terminal and hit enter.
Every time you need a new random password open your terminal and type
and it will generate one and save you having to type the entire function out again that session.
An example -
![[Image: pw.png]](https://preview.ibb.co/ciwppR/pw.png)
Be sure to save any random passwords you use somewhere safe, like the password locker/safe, didn't we used to have one of these in Linux Lite ?
I will post some other ways to do this soon.

[size=1em]Hello, I'm new to this forum, but have been using linux for about 2 years. The pentium 2.4, 2gb ram computer i was using had a graphics card that wouldn't work with linux. this set me on wondering what linux os could run on this size computer (there seem to be a lot of these around still), and still have long term support, the large deb repository, a full featured desktop like mint and noticeable security (having to get root permission to enter other partitions). Linux lite is the best ubuntu based os so far.
Linux mint was to much of a strain on the cpu and ram, peppermint is the fastest so far (lighter file manage & settings) with lite coming in for a very close second. The settings and desktop in lite seem to be a lot like mint. Xfce is the best middle of the road desktop for me.
I spent the first year learning how to maintain linux and the best packages for the job. The second year was spent learning the installed and available productivity software.

LibreOffice - We've added a Thesaurus (Synonyms) to LibreOffice for the US language.
For support in your language, just change the last country code:
so:
Code: sudo apt-get install mythes-de

If you are English based, keep the first 2 parts, and just change the last:
for Australian.

I loaded Linux Lite 3.6 64 Bit by following the online instructions (running the 'Install Linux Lite' on my desktop from the DVD, finally getting past the 'No bootable device- -insert boot disk and press any key' error.
My 500 GB hard drive was unmounted. After getting the message to reboot, my system froze to a black screen. Had to power off/on to start Linux from DVD again. I mounted my 500GB hard drive to /media/disk1, rebooted again and got the error 'No OS Found. Insert 0S setup disk, then press any Key.'
The screen went black, I put the DVD back into the CD drive, waited 2 minutes, then Linux came up without the Install Linux Lite icon. I did a shutdown, turned on my netbook, selected Boot from first hard disk and got message: Selected 'Boot from first local disk' and got the error 'Boot failed: press key to retry'. I booted from the DVD again, chose the 'Enter Linux Lite' option, shutdown my session, removed the DVD from the CD drive. Booted up from without the DVD and got the error 'No OS Found. Insert 0S setup disk, then press any Key.' Linux will only launch from the DVD. Please let me know if you want me to send any reports to look at this further. How do I get the Linux OS loaded on my hard drive?

Greetings,
I'm trying to install Lite 3.6 on a Dell Inspiron 11 3162. This is a fanless laptop (cheap) with a Celeron n3050, 2gb RAM and 32g MMC "hard" drive. Install works perfectly and detects the MMC drive just fine but after install is complete the bios reports "no boot device found".
It IS set to LEGACY in the BIOS with Secure Boot OFF.
I've tried both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Lite but I'd prefer the 32-bit on this 2gb laptop.
TIA,
|
