Export file / save as : Dialog box tend to not respond
Posted by: Sprintrdriver - 04-21-2018, 07:30 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (5)

Hi.

I just got a new problem to my LL installation that have not being an issue earlier.

Using Libre Office now (but that doesn't seem to be the only program affected) when I try to export a file to PDF, the "Export" dialog box stop responding. Only three actions seems possible: Close window x in upper left), maximize window (next to) and right click top of window will get the window menu to appear.
When trying to drag the window around on the screen it let a tail (shadow copies of itself). The only way to proceed is to click the X close window button, that will activate another dialog box that say window is busy and ask if I want to terminate process. Problem is: closing process means loosing data = very bad.

I tried to take a screen shot of the save-as dialog box that frosed, but the save as dialog box for screenshot frozed as well.
I think in both cases I was able to navigate to the folder I wanted the files to be saved, but from there - window frosed. Because both dialog boxes frosed, I guess it is not a LibO issue.

The issue seem to may happens independently of the current folder location of the file-save dalog box. The last one (screen copy) was happening at home dir, while the other one in a bigger partition not located in my home dir.

The computer (Dell Latitude D620) has resently being shut down because of overheating issue. Can that cause such strange OS behaviour somehow?

Linux Lite version 3.6 x64.

  Endless problems
Posted by: SICKOFLINUX - 04-21-2018, 08:26 AM - Forum: Suggestions and Feedback - Replies (3)

Having installed Linux lite about a year or two ago thanks to a generous benefactor whereupon it ran without fault.Upon every update it has become more dysfunctional.
I have updated fairly regularly feeling that this is the wise thing to do & that others know best but with each update firefox has become more dysfunctional with out of control scripts & endless crashes until a few days ago when it was'nt even possible to restart it so I had to revert via the setback facility to the original installation.

Am I the only one that has to conclude that this is an operating system not fit for purpose? I don't want to be ungrateful as it cost me nothing in the first place & obviously a lot of people have put a lot of work into it but it seems like total crap to me when you can do everything recommended & you end up with a completely inoperable system.Reasonable of not?

  How we should process information

Something a little different. But if you want to know how some developers process information, this is a good example.

Linux Lite Only Boots From Other Hard Drive
Posted by: mdiemer - 04-20-2018, 04:53 PM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (4)

I've been gravitating more and more to Linux Lite as my default OS. The more I use it, the more I like it. However, I can only boot it from my other hard drive. Here's my setup:

Drive 1 has True OS (something I'm trying out, in order to learn more about Unix and related systems).
Drive 2 has Linux Lite and Windows 7.
Drive 3 has Ubuntu Mate and Ubuntu Budgie (kind of a face-off, to decide which I like better).

They all have grub menus, but Linux Lite's is not working right. I have to boot from U-Budgie's grub to actually get LL up and running. I have tried the Boot Repair Disc, but it has not worked (I have used it before successfully). I want to be able to boot LL directly from its own grub, as I may transfer it to Drive 3. Having so many systems on my computer is confusing; in trying to learn them all, I just end up not knowing any of them very well. So, I think I'm going to simplify things by having True on Drive 1, Windows on Drive 2, and Lite on Drive 3. One system per disk. So I can actually become proficient in all three. This is especially important as I hope to get my wife on Linux, since I don't want her to use Windows 10, and I need to really know what I put on her computer, so I can deal with whatever problems come up.

So, that's it, how can I fix the boot/grub problem on LL, and get it booting on its own, so I can then transfer it to another drive? I could of course just clean install, which I have thought of doing, but if I go that route I probably would want to wait for LL4 to come out, which I believe is this summer. Unless I can upgrade to version 4, which I'm not sure is possible.

Addendum: When I try to install grub (sudo grub-install), it starts to do it, then I get a message about ext2 and blocklists, and it says it won't do it. When I update grub (sudo update-grub), it does it, but it does not find Linux Lite!

From the searching I've done, this appears to be a rather dicey problem, and I'm afraid to tinker too much. I did try force-installing (grub-install --force /dev/sdXY) once, but permission was denied, and I don't want to fool around anymore until I get some guidance.

How to change the color of user@host text line of LXTerminal?
Posted by: gabanmaven - 04-19-2018, 02:27 PM - Forum: Desktop Customization - Replies (5)

Hello, complete newbie here.

I have googled this topic, but everything related to this question was about ubuntu. Being a newbie myself, I tried it on my machine anyways, and of course it didn't work.

I'm using stock terminal (LXTerminal). In the Preferences, the only options are to change font, font size, background color and foreground color. I'd like to change the color of user@host to be something else, so it's easier to differentiate which is command and which is output, especially in a long list. As SU, the user@host color changes to red, so that's awesome. Is it possible to do the same outside SU, say, change the user@host to light blue or something.

Cheers!!
