Cannot seem to edit PDF's. Any advice for how to fill out PDF forms?
Posted by: Vera - 05-02-2018, 06:33 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (9)

Hi, I'm a little confused - I can't seem to edit PDF's. By edit, I mean add text to fill in forms. I thought I used to be able to a year ago on this same computer.

It's possible I don't remember what I did, but there's a form I fill out each year and when I open it up this year, it just won't let me make changes. I can't seem to edit last year's PDF form either anymore, so I'm not sure why this is.

Anyhow, my aim is to fill in multi-page PDF forms and save as a PDF document, I'd like to know if anyone has any advice for this situation please. Thank you - it would be a huge help.

Posted by: kissbaby3 - 05-02-2018, 02:49 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (9)

my computer upstairs is windows 10 home 64bit,
i need to download the ISO file for windows 10, the iso file is the windows 10 April update(they are calling it that)
i tried to download the 4.4 GB iso file using firefox 59.0.2, on Linux lite, so i can create a windows 10 DVD.
but it keeps only downloading 1.4 GB and says download complete.
does any one else have this problem ?, on their linux machine.
can some one please test this out for me ?. and then tell me what the ISO size is at their end ?.
here is the link. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software...ndows10ISO
:o
P.S.
i can download the iso file from my windows machine using their media creation tool, but i wanted to download the file  using my linux machine.
please help, if you click on the link, it wont give the media creation tool, it will only do that if your on a windows machine.

  Do I need MD5SUM?
Posted by: Searchernow - 05-01-2018, 09:38 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (2)

I have downloaded LL 3.8 64bit -
on the Lite download page I see "MD5SUM: 4fbb8c5809631f768481716e56e5d066"
do I need to use this, and how do I?

I note in the lite manual the option (before installing) "Check Install Media - run this to check that the Linux Lite image is free from errors."

Will the latter be a better (or same) than the MD5SUM??

My previous installation has recurring problems so I want the best install I can manage this time!  :-\

Is there a way to change the text color in the terminal?

Never mind, figured it out.

  Looking for specific Conky module
Posted by: GregO - 04-30-2018, 04:58 PM - Forum: Desktop Customization - Replies (8)

I have Conky Manager installed which comes with a predefined set of Conky themes. All of them seem to work with the exception of the Nvidia panel, and I'm wondering if I have to change its configuration within its file to make it work.

I copied the file and this is what's there...

  Problem with get_flash_videos
Posted by: torolite35 - 04-30-2018, 04:15 PM - Forum: Installing Software - No Replies

Good evening friends of LL

I have not commented in the forum for a while, but I installed get_flash_videos and I have a problem that is not fixed.

There are many videos that I want to download but I get this: File name too long at /usr/share/perl5/FlashVideo/Downloader.pm line 122.

Is there any solution for this?.

It's been a few years since I've only used LL and I'm delighted.

Thank you very much

  Install Updates has an error
Posted by: rondi - 04-30-2018, 02:39 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (8)

I got my LL install on my USB Stick, so the first that is recommended is to install all updates which I attempted to do. The error instructed me to post this here---it is MANY lines--so here it is:

After scrolling thru the log, the first error that I saw (may have missed one) is this one--pretty close to the bottom:

Unpacking firefox (59.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.3) over (58.0+build6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1) ...
dpkg: error processing archive /var/cache/apt/archives/firefox_59.0.2+build1-0ubuntu0.16.04.3_amd64.deb (--unpack):
unable to make backup link of './usr/lib/firefox/browser/omni.ja' before installing new version: No space left on device

Edit1: After shutting down LL, I looked at my UBS stick in W7. Windows Explorer show exactly 1.00 gb used (an odd number I think), my Partition Manager shows 1085.4mb used, 29436.5 unused and no boot partition. The error is not for lack of storage on the stick. It is all 1 big partition. In the root, there is a "file" called ubuntu which has a size of 0. It looks to me like a LOT of Folders & Files are hidden. How do I show them? ie I was running Firefox in LL to post the log file. but Firefox is not on the USB stick.

Edit2: After adding edit1 I noticed what I pasted from the clipboard, all of it did not make to this post. all the error are at the end.
I did not save the log file--I was depending on this post to have it complete. Similar errors were listed to the above.

Since you can't see the errors, My guess is--I should hit the Install Updates button again. Maybe there was too many files and this Lite version did not execute them correctly. I notice lots of us have problem installing updates. To start with--I would suggest the designer of the Update program, or as some would call it-- the App, break the number of files to update into 3 or 4 chunks. It took me over an hour to download all the files.

Install new drives, they are not showing up. New/Old computers.
Posted by: jesterdev - 04-30-2018, 12:10 AM - Forum: Hard Drives and SSDs - Replies (1)

I've not installed drives since the days of IDE Master/Slave. I just picked up a bunch of computers at a government surplus auction, Dell T3500 workstations. I decided to cluster a bunch of them but I'm having
issues with them recognizing a secondary HD. The drives are good, tested and working but only the first drive shows up on all of the computers. The bios also only shows the one drive. DVD shows up also.

I have the drives on ports SATA0, SATA1. I can boot and install an OS (Linux Light) and everything is fine otherwise. I'll admit I don't know what I'm doing, but I can certainly install a drive, to me at least it seems pretty straight forward. Or at least I thought....

In the Bios I it tried ATA and Legacy with no luck, I don't remember the first option, but that didn't work either.

  "vboxdrv TSC mode is Invariant"
Posted by: JohnD - 04-29-2018, 09:27 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

Since an update I can not use Lite.

First I've got an error message: [tt]rc.local[1683]: xset: unable to open display ""[/tt]

Now I got this:

Code:
vboxdrv TSC mode is Invariant

After about three other lines on vbox I got error messages about hd access. fsck says all file systems are ok.

Since weeks I'm using Linux Mint.

Firefox is so slow to start up?
Posted by: colin - 04-29-2018, 09:21 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (2)

I am admittedly running Linux Lite 3.8 (64bit) on an old shed of a desktop computer. But since installing Linux Lite 3.8 Firefox seems to really drag its feet when starting up? Otherwise everthing is just great.  Is there anything i could do to speed up Firefox anyone please. Thanks
