Forum: Video Cards
- No Replies

Hi, all is working and looking great so far, except for this delay seemingly related to the time it takes the video card to inicialize.

I have a HP Pavilion-dv7t-4100 notebook:
Intel i7 with 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD

In lspci the vga card shows> [AMD/ATI] Madison [Mobility Radeon HD 5650/5750 / 6530M/6550M]

The same notebook with Lite 3.8 would take a total of about 17 seconds to boot up

Now in Lite 4.0 takes about 50.

After a little playing around with systemd-analyze, dmesg, etc

I found out that if I change this line in grub:

from: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

to:    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="radeon.modeset=0""

I "get back" those extra 30 seconds...

(but it seems that the video card is not accelerated with this option enabled)

I don't know how the Lite 3.8 handled the Video Card... but if I could just make Lite 4.0 deal with the card the previous way ... may be I could make it boot faster.

This is what I get if I issue the command: dmesg | grep radeon

Quote:dmesg | grep radeon

Hi to All guys ,

I have an Atheros AR9287 chipset.
I have a problem with the WIFI connection after a fresh  V4.0 install.
The problem is that after inserted the password to connect to DHCP server the system try to connect succesfully just for a second or Two and then disconnect. after this it tries to connect and disconnect infinitely .

I give a sight to system log ( but i'm not an expert ) and seem to see something related to WLAN hard blocked . I also don't know how to hold the messages in log view and stop scrolling.

Could any one give me a hand to solve this problem. Thanks

PS with V3.8 I didnt have any problem with WIFI. All worked fine.

I installed 4.0 yesterday, and the only problem is with boot time. Seems slower than 3.8. I tried removing Virtual Box as suggested in Release Notes, but I'm not sure I did it correctly. It didn't help in any case. I simply pasted the commands into Terminal and ran them. But they were multiple commands, and I've never been sure of what to do with "Code-Select." If this was wrong, how should I go about doing this?

I decided after some problems to go for LL 4.0 Did want to stay with 3.8 but rather then do notting i am trying to get the problems solved.
The installation worked fine, system boots but there are 2 problems i cant get solved and need some help with.

1st problem is:
When i boot up the laptop i get error messages. But it boots anyway. The display resolution is 1366x768.The messages i get are:
error: no suitable video mode found.
error: no video mode activated.
error: no video mode activated.

2nd problem:
I cant get the Trim on SSD to work.I followed the steps in the manual.
When i do sudo leafpad /etc/rc.local the rc.local file is empty, notting in there.Copied and paste the info from the manual and edited it to my disc setup
When i do the last command to disable weekly cron job for Trim, i get the following message
sudo mv -v /etc/cron.weekly/fstrim /fstrim
[sudo] password for theo:
mv: cannot stat '/etc/cron.weekly/fstrim': No such file or directory

After reboot there is no trimlog

I noticed that Conky was included in LL 4.0. I like that, because I love Conky. Unfortunately Conky Manager does not work on Ubuntu 18.04 and neither does it on LL 4.0. So what is the use of including Conky if the Conky Manager does not work? It could have been known at the time of release of LL 4.0.

The only way I can open gedit at the moment is to search for it and then select "run gedit".  I would like to put a gedit launcher in my dock.  If I right click on a text file there is no option to open it using gedit.  How can I rectify this?

Hello people.
I have 32 bit LL installed, and I want to pass it to 64 bit. Since, I realized that my pc supports 64 bit.
I wanted to know how to go from 32 to 64.

Now that the Installation has a swap file instead of a swap partition what is the best way to partition for a Manual Install...?.
