Hi, I've really messed up and computer is at a complete standstill with a cd locked into the cd/dvd drive.

I wanted to install LL in a dual boot with Windows 7 on my laptop and everything went well but I messed up using Easy BCD and labeled the windows partition as LL.

I know what happened and know how to fix it but I can't get into either Windows or LL.

When I try to boot the computer, I just get a 'grub>' prompt and cannot find how to go any further to get into LL.

What I really need is to get into Windows where I know how to fix the problem but no joy there - Windows isn't even recognized!

If I can fix it from LL,I would appreciate detailed newbie instructions as to how to do it!  I can't use my LL live dvd as I have a Windows repair disk (useless) stuck in the cd/dvd drive!

I've been using LL on my desktop and really, really like it but have some Windows stuff on the laptop so I need to keep Windows for now.

Hate to be a pita but have been searching for days for a solution!

Hi,

I was looking for the services, which start when the boot process reaches the
graphical target and found this:

Code:
systemctl list-unit-files --state=enabled

And the output looks like this, when sorted by directly network related services:

Code:
dbus-fi.w1.wpa_supplicant1.service        enabled  1 wpa_supplicant.service                    enabled  1 dbus-org.freedesktop.network1.service      enabled  2 systemd-networkd.service                  enabled  2 dbus-org.freedesktop.resolve1.service      enabled  3 systemd-resolved.service                  enabled  3 dbus-org.freedesktop.nm-dispatcher.service enabled  4 NetworkManager-dispatcher.service          enabled  4 network-manager.service                    enabled  SL NetworkManager.service                    enabled  SL networkd-dispatcher.service                enabled resolvconf-pull-resolved.path              enabled resolvconf.service                        enabled networking.service                        enabled NetworkManager-wait-online.service        enabled systemd-networkd-wait-online.service      enabled apport-forward.socket                      enabled systemd-networkd.socket                    enabled pppd-dns.service                          enabled dns-clean.service                          enabled ....

I mean, how hard can it be to setup one wlan interface?
Years ago there was one init script under /etc/init.d which configured the
interface and that was it. But now we have this mess of mumbo-jumbo that
I don't understand.

Can someone check if this configuration has "some" overhead in it, please?
I use a laptop and my intention is just to get my wlan interface configured via dhcp.
Do I really need all of these units and services?

I added a number after those services which are related dbus < systemd
The "SL" means that the other is a symlink to the other one.

Thank you in advance!

Hello everybody. I'm quite novice in Linux and I want you could guide me. I plan to use a dual-boot between Windows 7 and Linux.
Now I'm noticed that Linux Lite don't support UEFI. But my question is: really Linux/Linux Lite support common hardware components (like leader brands ones in basic items like CPU, RAM, S.S.D., monitor and motherboard)? Cause if Linux don't support them it's a Linux fault and an essential flaw.
Please me let me know before buy my next PC  :-\

Hello! I plan to leave Windows 7 Professional ASAP and I 'd need Linux Lite will be build for those who need these switchings and therefore need to find every feature in Linux Lite.
Maybe a interface theme or directly a only standalone look.
This will get me calm since I won't lose anything in the switching.
Thx in advance!  Wink

I have started upgrading my machines to Linux Lite v4.0. My first was an ageing Core2Duo laptop and when I first installed I found I could access my 3.8 PCs and the USB drive attached to the router in the usual way. Today that seems to have stopped, though I can access networked devices using the IP address.Today I upgraded my desktop machine and this is when I noticed the problems. Some of them were of my own making - not following the manual properly I'm afraid - but I now have it that my shares open properly with the correct credentials. But the strange thing is that I cannot access anything through the Windows Network route: "Failed to retrieve share list from server: No such file or directory" comes up when I 'Browse Network' in the File Manager, though the shares in both LL 4.0 machines appear and can be reached. My Core2Duo laptop now exhibits the same behaviour.
I also have a more modern Acer Aspire laptop which is still on 3.8. When I run the Network command in File Manager it shows all 3 computers and the Router USB shares as well as Windows Network, but the Windows Network consists only of itself and the router. A separate Linkstation NAS does not appear on any lists but like all other  devices it can be opened via its IP address.
I can't help feeling that with the NAS also involved this points to a problem elsewhere than with LL 4.0 but it only started when I installed Linux Lite 4.0 on my main machine today.
I struggle to follow the mechanics of Samba shares at the best of times so any pointers to a remedy will be gratefully received.

Using Linux Lite in a Virtualbox VM. Increased the RAM for the VM. After this booting the VM ends in a login prompt (to the desktop environment?) with user pre-filled as "linuxlite".

It looks as if something was reset when Linux Lite discovered the RAM increase - rolling the RAM increase back does not get rid of the login prompt. I assume this login was previously done behind the scenes with some stored password.

As it does not seem possible to skip this login, and the only visible desktop component is the wallpaper, the VM is stuck.

Is there a fix for this? Or is it a bug?

Details:
Linux Lite 4.0 64 bit downloaded from Linux Lite site.
Running on VirtualBox 5.2.16 r123759 (Qt5.6.2) on Windows 10.
Installed in VM according to this guide.

PS: Correct subforum? Lemme know if not and I'll try and move it
