Hello,

I am trying to get this dual band Alfa Network wifi adapter working.
So far I have done -

Code:
sudo apt update
Code:
sudo apt install realtek-rtl88xxau-dkms

The adapter light has not came on, and it has not found any routers.

Code:
iwconfig
says no wireless devices are connected to the computer.
LinSSID also will not open saying there are no wireless devices connected.

I have then tested both of the USB ports I am using with -
AWUS036h
AWUS036NHA
Also with 3 dongles one regular, one mini, and one micro dongle. These use different drivers, and they don't all use the same drivers.
I have also tested these in LinSSID and they all work fine.
I need to determine if the device is faulty (as it is a new arrival), and if it is not faulty to learn how to get it working.

Oftentimes when issued manually to reboot, the system would close up all the processes but somehow fail to proceed. When given input, the terminal would show up, with the last line telling the system is initiating reboot, but further input returns the original black screen, which we had escaped. Further input rolls back to the same terminal sequence, appearing to load again each time anew.

Working in a school and introducing students to Linux. Installed Linux Lite 4.0 on a netbook Asus Eee PC Seashell series. Went on really well and works so much better than windows on it. But there is a problem with the keyboard. I doesn't recognise the keyboard correctly, the key mapping is wrong. Instead of pressing fn keys to get the blue numbers on J.K.L,M,U,I,O,P I get numbers instead of lessons. Only works with external keyboard for all letters Sad

Python developer packages went on really well and can't wait to show the computer science GCSE and A level students, but really want to see if the keyboard can be mapped first.

Hi All,
I have a brother printer that works great with Linux Lite as long as prints only on one side.  I don't know how to fix it.  I am rather new in Linux world so please explain simply some things I could try-I won't be offended.  Thanks in advance for any helpful suggestions.

been using linux lite 4.0 , very happy with it , my printer is a canon MG3200 series , prints and the scanner works on the simple-scan.
my ink is fine, black is at 40%.
color says 0%, but did a test run, color prints fine. i find that odd.

Sad Sad Sad Sad "simple-scan", has started to scan and give poor visual quality , and also very poor print quality , it was fine before.
its not my ink.
i tried the just text in "simple scan", still crappy, it was set on photo, that scan is visually poor as well.

??? is there another scanner program i can try ?. please help, or i will just go to my windows 10 PC to do this ,
its been almost a year now, and not used my windows 10(back-up) pc yet...... linux rocks. if i have to , i guess i can use my windows pc, please help.

i thank every one who can hopefully help me  :-*

I'm planning on passing on this computer but want to change the login, computer and username on this old machine to use for the new one.
Is it possible to do that change?

I found this 2014 post for changing username,  https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/insta...user-name/  is the info still valid?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

If I download something and then unzip it using the default archive manager in Linux Lite, it gives me the option to "see the files" after I unzip them. However, if I click on that option, the system asks for my password and then loads a list of the possible software updates and then asks me if I want to install them. It does this consistently, every time I use the archive manager.

I recently installed Linux Lite 4.0 (release 18.04) on an older PC with a plan to run the PC headless and access it over my local home network via a VNC connection.

So I installed vnc4server and was able to successfully connect to it using a TigerVNC client on a Windows10 PC.  However, as I started doing things over the VNC connection, I noticed that programs requiring admin rights did not work.

For example, the File Manager works just fine until I try to do an "Open as Administrator".  When I do try that, nothing happens when I use the VNC connection.  However, this works just fine when I use a monitor and keyword connected directly to the PC.

This issue also exists with other things like System Install/Remove Software and Settings Firewall Configuration.  For all of these, I never see the Authenticate popup window to enter a password when connected via VNC.

Finally, I have experimented using x11vnc on this PC and I do not see the same issue when accessing the PC over that VNC connection.  I assume that is because x11vnc is sharing the existing X session rather than opening a separate session like other VNC servers.

Any comments/suggestions/alternatives to resolve this admin rights issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Paul

Good day people of the intertubes,
One of my co-worker sent me this article last week. There has been UEFI problems in the past and Jerry and the Linux Team wisely chose to keep using BIOS "Legacy" mode for their main distribution. It was just a question of time but, seems UEFI could be in real hot water in the next few months. The article mentions that hackers successfully installed rootkits in the "secure" UEFI partition.

Cheers!
