I'm a noob and just started my old Linux computer for the second time today. My sister was in the hospital for over 4 months and I had to stop what I was doing after she went in. She has also been in the nursing home for about 1 month now. I don't remember what all I tried to do with it. I'd like to get it connected to the internet. I have a cable from my motherboard to my modem I guess is what you call it and I'm not able to figure out how to get connected to the internet. The modem is an Motorola MT7711 if that helps. I don't know what version of Linux Lite I'm using though because I forgot to write it down. If it's going to be very difficult, maybe I'll take the desktop somewhere and have someone look at it. I'm 70 years old and not that good with computers.

I can RDP from my Lite Linux machine into a Windows 10 on my local network with no issues , but when I try using a VPN (which appears stable) and my mobile phone as a hotspot I get a 'Remmina lost connection to RDP ' error.
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks
Winston
This window can help you find connection problems.
You can stop and start the logging at any moment using the On/Off switch.
The stats button (Ctrl+T), can be useful to gather system info you may share when reporting a bug.

hi, first of all im new to everything linux
im trying to install linux lite on a old laptop, a 2011 HP ProBook 6560b, so far i followed the install tutorial on linux lite website: downloading ios, writting the iso on a usb stick, booting with usb stick, booting on live system then installing linux lite following the instruction
im trying to only put linux as the only operation system on this laptop, so i installed using ''erase disk and install linux'' option, after finishing the install program made me restart the pc and remove the usb stick
now when it boot it show intel ® boot agent then 2 code appear:
PXE-E61 : Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel boot agent
then another page:
BootDevice Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk
Hard disk - (3F0)
tpm is enabled
vmx is enabled
i made sure the hard drive is the first boot option in the legacy list
i tryed pressing Esc then f9 for boot list on startup and selected hard drive, same thing
UEFI is not enabled : when i enable it the computer only show system error when booting and seem to be in a restart-system error loop.
anyone know a fix/what i do wrong? i tryed reinstalling linux lite a couple time toggling ''updates and other software'' option on and off is doesnt change anything
i also tryed formating the hard drive in gparted before installing linux lite and it didnt change a thing.

Lenovo V15 ADA laptop with NMVe SSD and Windows 11 Home PC. Secure boot is off.
I shrunk the Win11 and then installed LL 6.0 no updates with /, /home & data partitions all ext4.
Booted OK into Windows and LL 6.0 via Grub.
Then I changed the data partition to NTFS, changed the desktop appearance and icon style and did a system update.
Then as requested I rebooted but it failed to boot with:
Code: [ 0.998701 ] Integrity Problem loading X.509 certificate -65Your are in emergency mode. After logging in type "journalctl -xb" to view system logs.
"journalctl -reboot" to reboot. "journalctl -default" or "exit" to boot into default mode.
Press Enter for maintenance (or press Control-D to continue)
I pressed control-D and get:
Code: Failed to start default target: Transaction for graphical.target/start is destructive (emergency/target has 'start' job queued, but 'stop' is included in transaction).
Forced a reboot and checked BIOS. All seems OK. Rebooted but get the X.509 error followed by 100s of errors re USB device descriptor errors. Had to power on & off.
Downloaded LL 6.6 to USB stick and booted Live to Desktop and clicked Install. After selecting the previous / and ./home partitions and clicking format the installation fails with:
Code: GNU GRUB Version 2.06 error: Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions.Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions.
grub>
So now I have a PC that does not boot into either LL or Windows Luckily I do have an image of the whole system with just Windows but don't want to go down that route until I have a solution.Suggestions please.Alan
PS been using LL for many years on an older laptop without problem and have recently installed LL6.6 onto a old desktop with SSD and Clover and that is working. But neither is dual boot with Windows and neither has secure boot.

I recently installed Linux Lite on my Chromebook 3100 which has 16 GB storage, and since ChromeOS is a bigger OS it took up a lot of my Hard Drive. On Linux it knows that I have 16GB but it can't access it for whatever reason. I tried removing hardware write protection it's not protected with a screw. Any suggestions?

Gnome-boxes is probably the easiest virtualization/emulation software solution for new users. I have been using it for a month now on Linux Lite 6.6 and have had no issues at all. Give it a try if you are new to Linux. Its simplicity is quite comfortable.

Running LL 4.8. I want to increase the time before the system goes to standby mode. It is the mode after the display quits. When I bring up the PM, it only stays on the desktop for about 1 second and then goes away. Any other way to change these settings?
Thanks

Greets from sunless and drab British Isles..........
Hi!
Ive been using Linux based OS's for about ten years. I currently use several machines with Linux Mint Cinnamon and Ubuntu 22.04 Jammy Jellyfish (silly name or what?).
Im a masochist, I dual boot with Windows 11 and I also run Virtualbox's for test driving stuff.
Recently I found LinuxLite and I really like it. Im running LL 6.6 in my VB now. It has run faultlessly so I am pretty certain that this OS will be a breath of fresh air for a couple of my lower spec laptops. I may even adopt it on a couple of my better models.
I see this system has been well thought out and incorporates some damn useful stuff. It saved me hunting trough synaptic and software manager.
Any rate.............
Thanks, and Ill be keeping an eye on the forum here for sure.

hi i have a asus t100taf, it has a baytrail cpu.
i did a sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and it ended up messing up grub. so i can only get into the system with a recovery usb. Because if i try to boot regularly i will end up at grub resucue.
this is the code i get when i try to run sudo apt-get grub-efi:
Code: apt-get install --reinstall grub-efi
