  Updates could not fetch packages
Posted by: OBJuan - 09-06-2019, 07:06 PM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (4)

I am running Lite 4.6 on two machines, both upgraded from 4.4, one is able to update the other cannot ;
Both confusers are on the same wireless to the same router;
One computer (the one I am using) is an HP Compaq 6200 pro Intel core i5-2500 with 8gb ddr3 ram
no problem getting updates on the HP-6200
Other computer is a 2005 vintage HP Pavilion a1646 intel core 2 with 8 gb ddr2 ram (buckeye mobo)
This 1646 does have  difficulty. When I tell it to update I get this response:
"Install Updates could not fetch the package cache information lists.
Go to https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/ and paste the log below into a new or existing thread for assistance.

I have tried selecting a different mirror but get the same "No fetch". Had a dog like that once ....
What should I do ?

Power Manager Plugin Battery indicator only updates when restarting
Posted by: N.Jards - 09-06-2019, 02:48 PM - Forum: Other - No Replies

Hello Linux Lite Community,
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue before. I have bought a new laptop battery for my HP Elitebook laptop running Linux Lite.
The battery level indicator from the Power Manager Plugin does not change (stays on 100%), but updates to the correct level when I restart the computer.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the XFCE4 power manager package, but it did not solve the issue.
I don't think it is a hardware issue, as the battery level indicator displays correctly when running a live USB.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

  Upgrade 4.4 to 4.6
Posted by: richard.mockler - 09-06-2019, 12:38 AM - Forum: Installing Software - Replies (2)

I have an HP laptop and an HP desktop, both running Linux Lite 4.4. When I saw that 4.6 is now available I booted up my laptop, did an update, then did the Linux Lite Upgrade option.  The procedure ran to a successful completion, and now according to System Information, my Operating System on the laptop is now Linux Lite 4.6.
I went to my HP desktop and ran the same options and on the Linux Lite Upgade I got a screen that says "You are already running the latest release."
According to my System Information, Operating System on the desktop I am running Linux Lite 4.4. Why does it say latest release, and what do I do to upgrade from 4.4 to 4.6?

Cannot Locate .bin File for Uninstall
Posted by: Steven Katilius - 09-05-2019, 08:45 PM - Forum: Other - Replies (2)

Hello,
I wanted to uninstall two packages that came with my 3.8 Linux Lite OS.  When I use the Linux Software tool I get a message that it cannot locate .bin file but both packages are listed in my "installed" software listing.  The packages are Skype and Spotify.

I tried to use the command line to uninstall and I get a message that says cannot locate package "Spotify" or "Skype", same message.  I am using: sudo apt-get purge (package) as the command in terminal.

Any suggestions?

Steve

  gscan2pdf error message on startup?

I get this error (?) message every time I start gscan2pdf scanner program.  Any ideas how to fix it?

Is it just a matter of installing something called PDFTK?

I'm seeking advice with a failed update.
Log attached - mentions 'no space left on device'.
Do I need to remove the unused packages or is it more complex ?

Thank you.

Lite now taking 3 minutes to boot
Posted by: arky217 - 09-04-2019, 02:22 AM - Forum: Start up and Shutdown - Replies (6)

I had Linux Lite (4.6) installed in a triple boot on a 120Gb SSD.
I went to use Timeshift to make a backup of Linux Lite, but
it failed saying that there was not enough disc space.
I checked and sure enough, there was only a few Gb of free
space on the Lite partition.

So, booting to a live Lite USB, I deleted one of the other os's
and then resized Lite to a greater partition size.

Well, it did something to grub and when I rebooted, it booted
to the grub rescue mode.

Well, using another computer to get some grub rescue mode
instructions, I was then able to boot into Lite.
Then I reinstall grub to /dev/sda and did a grub update.

It all appears to work now except that whereas before the time
to boot into Lite was about 30 seconds, now it takes 3 minutes
to boot.

Any idea what could have made the boot time go from 30 sec to 3 minutes ?

Here is a copy of my grub file:

Edit: I just looked at the boot log and
there are seemingly countless occurances
of starting light display manager and within
each occurance it is trying to start vboxadd.service.

Could this have anything to do with the slow boot time ?

Samsung Laserjet Printer/Scanner - Printer works, no Scanner

I did a little bit of searching, but I am still a newb and and I'm having trouble figuring out how to install the software for this (Samsung M2875DW) Printer Scanner.

I downloaded and installed this file from the HP website - uld_V1.00.39_01.17.tar.gz

It appears to have installed successfully but I do not see it listed under programs, and not sure what I should be looking for now.
