Muchas gracias!

System backup to another drive

I have an SSD as a system drive, and I have two internal conventional disks as well, both formatted FAT-32. I'd like to backup my system to one of the bigger drives, but Timeshift tells me it can't do that. Timeshift also tells me my SSD is not a Linux formatted device, though, which is obviously incorrect. Despite that message it does appear to backup the system to the SSD, but AFAIC that's of limited value since if the disk dies, so does the backup.
Any ideas welcome.

Dedicated GPU for 1080p videos ?

Running LL 4.6, Gigabyte B360M D3H motherboard, Pentium Gold G5400 cpu, 8GB of DDR4 2400 ram.
The pentium has Intel's integrated UHD 610 graphics.
Would I notice any improvement in watching 1080p videos if I installed
a dedicated GPU ? (I do not do any gaming)
And if so, what would be a good choice for significant improvement
over the Intel UHD 610 ? (Prefer a GPU under $100 and compatible with LL.)

Upgrading from 4.0 to 4.6

I'm a non-power user. I've been using 4.0 for over a year now without much trouble except for constant problems with thumb drives, which would sure be nice to be rid of (if that's possible). I have never upgraded Linux Lite before and I have a couple of questions.
What do I lose when I do this? I assume all my desktop customizations go, but do I need to manually reinstall non-OS apps like browsers, etc? What about logins, passwords for the browsers, email program, etc?
My Lite Upgrade is the correct one, according to the upgrade notice.
I noticed that the directions tell you to run Timeshift first to do a backup, but Timeshift has NEVER worked for me and I ended up deleting it. I use Clonezilla, although I have never had to restore the system because it's never been necessary. But I would certainly run it before trying anything. I don't know if this would make a difference - don't see how, but I'm just trying to provide complete information.
Thanks!

Changing from Windows OS to Linux Lite

I wondered if members might weigh in on this question:
I met the new IT person at an NGO here in South Africa. The NGO allows me to use their facilities whereby I may bring my study group youth to access the internet and have a nice, safe place to study, research, etc at no fee. It is wonderful and saves me buying data for internet activities.
The NGO currently uses windows based software both for their admin people as well as on their computers that they use to deliver a basic computer skills course. I am unsure of the specific items on which they instruct their students, however it is basic stuff like word and excel, cutting and pasting, etc.
Because of the cost of the Windows licenses the IT person has suggested to the CEO that they consider an open source operating system and interestingly several of their admin people are already using Libre Office. The CEO is against switching despite the savings as he feels that "we cannot teach the computer course on a system that the students will not encounter in the workplace". For example would they understand how to use Excel if they were using a Linux base OS, in other words how easily transferable would the skills be from say Linux to Windows..?
So I am wondering what comments/opinions Forum members might have about this situation?

Restoring Linux Lite grub

I installed another distro along side Linux Lite and it installed its own grub at /dev/sda.
Now, I want to delete that distro, but before doing so, I know that I need to restore
the Linux Lite grub. Is this the correct procedure to do so:
1) boot into Linux Lite
2) sudo grub-install /dev/sda
3) sudo update-grub

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/staging
sudo apt upgrade
own_window yes
own_window_argb_visual yes
own_window_argb_value 0
own_window_type normal
own_window_transparent yes
own_window_hints undecorated,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager,below
строки: exo-open /home/USER/.local/share/applications/redshift-gtk.desktop, предварительно выпилив из файла redshift-gtk.desktop строку startupnotify=true и сделав этот файл исполняемым.

xfsettingsd memory bloat

Hi,
I'm a new user to LinuxLite and I'm enjoying however I'm finding that the program xfsettingsd is consuming a lot of memory as the session goes on. it starts at about 24MB and grows rapidly at the moment it's at 328MB more than the browser I'm using.
On my other laptop running Xubuntu xfsettingsd stays at 27.8MB.
Is there anything that can be done about that it's making my LinuxLite not so light.
Thanks,
Andy
UPDATE - This only seems to happen when I use the Brave Browser, if I start Firefox it stays in the 20MB range, when I start Brave it shoots up. I guess I've found a work-around.
