Error: ZSTD - compressed data is corrupt - system halted.
Posted by: ramlez - 07-23-2024, 02:36 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (6)

Hello Community. I installed Windows 10 lite and Linux Lite (in that order) in an old machine and suddenly the topic`s message appeared. I thought it could be solved reparing the grub. I booted with an ISO with Boot Repair Disk with no right result. Then, I made a trial erasing LL and installing Lubuntu preserving Windows. After the installation, the problem persists. Windows boots properly. I acknowledge the solution.

Forum script issues as of July 2024

Forum script issues as of July 2024

Hi, everyone!

Since I had trouble since the beginning of this new story, I belive we can help solving them.

1. UTF-8 compliance.

As anyone can see, my name is Șerban Stănescu. The User Name, is "Șerban S."
Having more than 29 years of computer practice, it is highly unlikely for me to "forget" my login credentials.
Yet, i was unable to login!
It took me almost 150 minutes to find a solution to login. This is by all means, unacceptable.
Finally, i discovered that the PHP login script, expects instead of "Ș", the ASCII code (  &#350 ).
I don't know what about you, but I'm sure I'm not a computer, by all means. So, how was i supposed to guess what the hell the login script expected from me and what the error message meant?
Nevertheless, I was persistent enough to discover this.
So, if there is anyone in this situation, just search for the ASCII code of the character (LibreOffice, Special Characters, KeyDown) and replace it in the login window. Something like this:

"&#350"
Remember to end the tag with ";".
I omitted the semicolon because it is impossible to put the whole HTML TAG string without getting it replaced with the special character. Weird behavior, to say the least!

The same issue can be generated by the System Font(s), if it is an old ISO definition, such as "Courier New Western". All fonts have to be UTF-8 compliant.

2. Ranking icons.

As you can see, my ranking icons show as placeholders.
Since on my forum I replaced some default icons with others, I came across this.
First possible cause is the size of the image.
The standard size and file format, can be obtained from the "Star" icon, which shows correctly.
For any other file, whatever image would that be, it has to have the same format. If it's a .gif has to be converted to .png, and so on, depending on the default format. There should be a mention regarding supported formats and possibly, the size.
Same program that converts, can resize it to the size of the Star icon. So, say if this is "Star.ico" or maybe "Star.gif" and 16px, then all other ranking icons in the script directory, have to stick to this size and file format.
I'm pretty sure that only Jerry can fix that, since it is done at hosting level, using some FTP (FileZilla, for one) or maybe the web app of the hosting. Both work fine, i used both.
After fixing, a full backup is required. After this, in case of need, only the changed directories need (eventually) to be restored.

3. Forum Menu

Now, the Forum Menu, has links for "New Posts", "Today's Posts". Both return an empty string.
While for "Today's Posts" this might be true, for "New Posts", I highly doubt that, unless the time stamp or range is set to "0". If so, what's the use of this link?
I guess this can be solved at Admin level, since there has to be some time string to set the interval in the querry string of the Forum Settings.

  Linux Lite install alongside macOS
Posted by: Mactrix - 07-18-2024, 05:51 AM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (3)

Hi!
This is my first time using Linux Lite.
I’m looking for a guide to install LL on a 2008 MacBook alongside macOS, dual boot. All attempts with other Linux distributions have led to the deletion of macOS EFI (?) and the inability to use the macOS boot manager - pressing the Options key after power on. What can I do to avoid this?
Thank you.

Reinstalling Linux Lite in Dual Boot
Posted by: LazyGuy - 07-10-2024, 04:12 PM - Forum: Installing Linux Lite - Replies (3)

Making this thread as told in Previous Thread https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/sound.../#msg62549

I Need to Install LL 6.6 In My Dual Boot System Replacing the LL 7.0 without destroying the Windows Partition.
I Used "Install Alongside Windows" Option to Install LL 7.0 Previously.

For Conveniance sake i have Detached All HDD Physically and now the System Only Has the SSD (500GB) which Houses both OS (Windows 10 and LL 7.0) the SSD is devided nearly in Half for Each OS.

i was told to run these 2 command and post result here..
1-lsblk
2-sudo fdisk -l

Here are the Results....

  Can't upgrade - PPA (team-xbmc)
Posted by: Jean-Marc B - 07-09-2024, 09:11 PM - Forum: Updates - Replies (2)

Ok, here's the situation.

Installed LL 7 on an old laptop, which I've been using for more or less 10 years, with various distros. But, when the install was finished, I removed the usb stick as required and clicked on the screen button, and then something went amok... Got error message scrolling down the screen, with no end, had to turn the laptop off, the keyboard wasn't responsive, nothing worked.

Reboot seemed ok, installed French language support, then tried to upgrade, but I keep getting this error message, and I can figure out what to do.

Hello Guys, i am a Linux Noob.  After checking out a few OS, i Installed this one as it is very approachable and easy to configure and customize.

Everything is running fine except for one thing.. i do not have any sound in the system. it has been about a couple weeks and i found no solution. So after Lurking about, i Decided to Make a Account and bother you guys directly  :011:

here are the 3 peculiar things i noticed during various troubleshooting methods i used..

1- when connected to wireless headphone the system recognizes them and plays sound via them no problem.

2-when system is in no sound mode, videos on any website do not play. they load but do not play. but connecting the headphone and producing sound makes them play again.

3-everytime i restart, system automatically defaults to analog audio despite my connection being HDMI (both produce no sound).

from what i got after running various commands posted on linux forums is that my audio devices are recognized and working well.
Point to note that windows is playing sound no problem.

Thank you for reading this and plese move it to appropriate section if i have posted in wrong one.

on a side note: can i ask Hardware related questions on this forum or is it limited to Software (Linux) Only?

Hello,
I am trying to mount an external hard drive using the LL 7.0 version, but all I get is an error message. Earlier versions of LL seemed to work well when mounting the same hard drive. The hard drive shows up in the file menu, but it won't open.
