Hallo liebes Forum

As said before I am Linux "Grandpa" and LinuxLite newbee ...
Making long story short: I got an old Laptop which I have sent into the NIRVANA with LinuxLite installation.
Anybody out there willing to help with diagnose / advice ?

So here come the details to my issue:
Old laptop (Siemens Amilo, everything factory standard except: 2GB Ram and 500GB SSD)
was running LinuxLite 3.8 32bit & WIN-XP dual boot setup for years.
until LinuxLite started to ask a password (out of the blue, it never did before)
I tried to bypass this with "rescatux-0.74.iso" and resetting the password to something new / known ... which failed.
At this stage GRUB was still working and offering both OS as choice to boot.
Hence I went on to reinstall LinuxLite 3.8 from scratch (over existing)
The first attempt to reinstall over existing failed too (Unknow System Error Message)
So I went on to reinstall LinuxLite beside existing OS, which went through
(I recall being asked to allocate Space)
and voila, here I am:
It is now offering 2 different Linux Versions to boot (1x not working at all and 1x I am currently using when typing these words)
There is no more Win-XP option to boot, which is sort of painfull - the only (not too much) valuable data was residing there - and I needed this to occasionally & flawless run some older Win Software ....

Possibly these partitions / data is still there ?? It is GRUB not working ??
Since I have self-inflicted this damage  :banghead , I reached out (here in this forum) to seek advice on how to possibly save my old win-boot partition ...

I read somewhere that: issuing "sudo os-prober" in a terminal window would at least show me if an old windows boot partition was found on the system (before entering into grub details). However: This only shows me 2x LinuxLite as:
/dev/sda1:Linux Lite 3.8 (16.04):Ubuntu:linux
/dev/sda7:Linux Lite 3.8 (16.04):Ubuntul:linux

I am totally expecting this post to be moved "elsewhere", but I feel like being lost with tons of much more experienced people ... (I am currently going through all the dos&dont's Jerry kindly replied to me).

So please accept my rather unexperienced help request.

best regards and many thanks
viele liebe Grüße und besten Dank
Gunter  :49:

I hadn't run my LinuxLite VM in several months, so when I booted up, there were a lot of updates.  I installed all the updates and rebooted, now I get a black screen and a blinking cursor before it loads the logon screen and will go no further.

Is there a keyboard shortcut to show the bootloader menu or enter a safe/recovery mode so I can restore from a snapshot?  Any help recovering from this catastrophe is greatly appreciated.

My issue is that I can't see the information of the content which is positioned in the bottom of the gimp window. Things like, size and the tools presset are hidden. I already tried to resize but it only resizes horizontally.

Hi all,

Need some assistance with installing LL6.  I'd like to install coexisting with windows 10.  I have in windows 50 GB of unallocated space but could not figure how to configure in install.  Next i partioned it in windows so I have /sd4 formatted as ntfs (which i had hoped I could reformat to what ll6 needs ext4) but still could not figure out the install options to make it work.  I've read through install manual but am unsure quite how to make it work in disk config section of install.

Anybody able to provide some added insight?

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Hi all,

I'm trying to install Linux Lite on an old Think X131e, however in the installation process it seems to be stuck on "installing ubuntu-drivers..."

I have no way to tell if it is really stuck or actually making progress and just taking a really long time. Is there a way to escape the GUI and see some sort of log?

Thanks!

Hi, all.

Thank you in advance for your help. I did search the forum, but couldn't find an answer.

I love Linux Lite but don't wish to use Chrome. In fact, I'd like to remove it completely in favour of another browser as my default. I understand that I could easily add another browser of my choice and just not use Chrome, but I'd like to purge the latter completely. I remember reading somewhere that it is not a good idea to remove applications that come with the base build of an OS, so I was wondering:

1. How do you remove Chrome from Lite?
2. Will removing it in favour of another browser have an adverse effect on the stability or usability of the system?

Once again, thanks for the help.

A.

Hey there,

I unfortunately am unable to install Tiktok on my smartphone. Plus, when I try to read my messages on TikTok's website, it tells me, "[This message type isn't supported. Download the TikTok app to view this message.]" Given all this, I wish to install it on my desktop. After several different searches, I was unable to accomplish this.

What do you guys recommend? Please do your best to answer my question directly, rather than simply tell me not to install it. Thank you.
