@LL-user Yes your right, I did for many years have two partitions on my windows computer C:\ for OS & D:\ for my data so I could reload OS with out move all my data off & back on. I know what I was doing.

I did do on my old LL computer but P#ss me off having to mount every time second partition. I did find a video how to make auto mount.
Don't know why can made partitions in Gparted but don't make them auto mount.

@DLX
When installing you can create a "/home" partition this will auto-mount... its essentially a system directory that can be told to be on another partition.. Easy with no additional mounting commands..

On the list to do next with this computer.

I did try before with two partitions as above but when I can to loading LL fresh install I pointed to say C:\  but wiped both partitions out! luck I backed up data first as didn't think I was 99% in knowing what I was doing.

@Wirezfree
trash-cli - YER was junk there even thought the bin was empty.

Many thanks

Glad it's sorted...

Sometimes when you delete things, they don't always get deleted, and are hidden.
I had an issue a while back, and posted a link to a "trash tool".

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install trash-cli
Then do:
Code: [Select]
trash-listto list hidden trash.

Then do
Code: [Select]
trash-emptyto remove hidden trash

Hi DLX,

You've provided a real life example why it's a good idea and advisable to have the "home" folder on a separate partition. You might want to consider this next time you install the system... LL 3.0 ante portas :)

O.K, forgot about the make space option.!!

Try the:
Code: [Select]
df -hSee what, and how much it's cleared.

It may have just emptied trash & temp files...

Hi,

Boot again...
At the grub screen select "recovery"
Then select "Root Shell" . I think it's called that.?

Then when you get the prompt:
Code: [Select]
df -h
Post the output, it shows where disk space is being used, like
Code: [Select]
Filesystem           Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
udev                 7.8G  4.0K  7.8G   1% /dev
tmpfs                1.6G  1.9M  1.6G   1% /run
/dev/sda1             50G  4.9G   42G  11% /
none                 4.0K     0  4.0K   0% /sys/fs/cgroup
none                 5.0M     0  5.0M   0% /run/lock
none                 7.8G   86M  7.7G   2% /run/shm
none                 100M   32K  100M   1% /run/user
/dev/sdb1             50G  915M   46G   2% /home
/dev/sdb2            148G  418M  140G   1% /mnt/data
/dev/sdb3            148G   92G   49G  66% /mnt/vbox
/dev/sdb4             99G  1.6G   92G   2% /mnt/vault

What I did was open web browser to change WiFi password typed in address 192. then browser shutdown when i hit enter.
computer froze so rebooted.

Got this popup when I login when I click close I had black screen white arror.
I  used a live image of LL on data stick looked at my hard drive partition 217 and used 206.

I tried to delete files off partition also tried to move files can't seem to do in a live LL, I looked at permissions they grayed out.
Open Terminal sudo su then password thought this give me admin rights to change partition to hard drive.

Also though LL would told me hard drive was filling up.

Thanks again for help.

PS what new theam
