I've seen this suggested
Menu>Settings>Window Manager Tweaks
Compositor Tab
untick "Enable display composting"

Good thread here https://www.dropboxforum.com/hc/communities/public/questions/201277199-Linux-version-keeps-updating-to-3-0-3-which-can-not-work
I downloaded the old version from the link on post 4 and went that way.

I have Xwm4 compositing disabled. I use compton as an compositor.

To remove existing Dropbox, open a terminal and do:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get remove --purge dropbox
then:

Code: [Select]
sudo rm -rf /etc/apt/sources.list.d/dropbox.list
then:

Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get update
then:

Open your home folder, press Ctrl+H and remove any hidden folders with the name 'dropbox' that you see.

Menu, Settings, Session and Startup, Application Autostart tab, make sure there is no entry fro Dropbox, if there is try to remove or untick it. After that I would reboot, just to ensure there is no daemon running.

Then use Menu > System > Install Additional Software to install it correctly.

I did it like requested. Still no Dropbox Icon. And this time even after frehsly installed.

So how would I go about manually uninstalling the current Dropbox prior to installing it via the Install Additional Software GUI ?

I don't have an answer to this one but be patient and I'm sure someone will be around soon. :)

Dropbox should be installed from Menu > All > Install Additional Software.

Hi Vaikus84,

I don't know if your installation method will cause any problems in Linux Lite (I'm sure others on the fourm will be able to answer that) but is the missing icon always missing or does it appear sometimes when you reboot?

After the Dropbox Icon was gone. It hasn't returned after several reboots after several days.

Did you install Dropbox from Menu > All > Install Additional Software?

A few retarts later the Dropbox Icon was gone. But when I look at Task Manager the application is running like it should.
Occassionally this will happen to me too - the Dropbox icon is missing at boot but still working. When this happens rebooting always fixes this for me. When you reboot does the Dropbox icon return?

I installed Dropbox like this:
-------------------------------
Setup key with:

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-keys 5044912E

Setup repository with:

sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://linux.dropbox.com/ubuntu/ trusty main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/dropbox.list'

Install:

sudo apt-get update -y && sudo apt-get -y install dropbox

Hello Linux Lite Gurus

So I installed the latest Dropbox that there is when currently posting this issue.
The first time starting after the install all was fine and I saw the Dropbox icon on the Panel.

A few restarts later the Dropbox Icon was gone. But when I look at Task Manager the application is running like it should.

Any ideas why this is happening and is there a fix for this disappeared Dropbox Icon?

Thank you in advance,
vaikus84
