What annoys me with most screen shooters is that you can only use a delay for a full desktop shot but not for an area/region of the screen so I always use shutter myself, it's bulky but does what I want how I want.

In XFCE 4.12, there will be an option to upload to imgur directly. This is a god-send for us :)

A few years back, in Windows, I was using ImageShack QuickShot until the upload link stopped working sometime around 2011:

All what you needed to do to post a screenshot of an active window on a forum like this one was:

- hit Ctrl+9 (to take the screenshot and upload the image to ImageShack server)
- wait a few seconds for a pop-up confirming the upload was ok
- place the cursor on the proper line in the message editor
- hit Ctrl+V (to paste the link)

I wish there was something similar available in Linux.

I'm very impressed with photobucket, I think it's interface/web page is much more user friendly and a more pleasant experience than imgur which I tried first for about a week.

help.imgur.com: How long do you keep the images?

Sorry misko, that's incorrect. Your own link clearly shows that the images are held indefinitely. When I signed up in mid 2014 Imgur was not free. The deal at the time was that once you have uploaded 250 images (I think) you were expected to start paying a small subscription fee. Otherwise the oldest images would get deleted to make room for the new ones. I'm not sure if this policy is still in effect because I haven't reached 250 limit yet. Personally I have no problem paying a small fee for a high quality hosting service.

Imgur will be the default until such time that it proves to be counterproductive. Cheers.

Must agree here, imgur, for my purposes, is very easy to use. The uploads are very fast and haven't had an image disappear on it's own. Have deleted some myself. IMHO, imgur is a very good recommendation.

I prefer imgur. It has less ads. When I click to save the images on other image hosting services, usually a new window opens with advertisements. If I do it on an Android device I get redirected to another page, and sometimes even download of some file starts! That never happens with imgur.

TinyPic help/FAQ http://tinypic.com/help/TinyPicHelp.htm says -
Images and videos in your account will not be removed.
Images and videos that are not associated with an account are kept until they have not been viewed for 90 days. After 90 days, they may be removed.

Based on this it seems if members create a TinyPic account and post the images from this they will be permanent, even if not viewed, so it is more durable for the forum.
Can it be considered as the preferred image host ?

Hi GF,
Does Cloudflare indirectly cache any of the screenshots? I haven't noticed missing screenshots in any of your posts yet. Maybe you can do the right-click, save shuffle on some of them.
~Scott

Not that I'm aware of.  I haven't looked through all of my old posts, but had a quick look at one that I know had a screenshot in it and it was gone.

imgur.com seems to keep the images for a very long time. I would even suggest regular contributors to the Forums set up an account to ensure your images stick.

It's not that the site deleted pics after a certain length of time.  It appears that the site itself vanished from the internet.  Will just switch to imgur for future needs.
