Printers (and other devices, such as MIDI controllers, MIDI keyboards, USB audio interfaces, etc.) usually create problems if you change the USB port. So you have to keep it connected to the port where you installed it.
But as it looks, it seems that the USB controller got fried off. I had this kind of trouble on three machines already. I had to give them up.
In this case, the only solution was to change the machine.
Changing the USB chipset costs too much and it requires a lot of expertise: service professionals.

I don't have any USB storage attached. My initial guess was the Brother printer (that I have just disconnected).
It has been an hour since the disconnection and it appears to be the culprit. However I will keep monitoring the log in case anything else pops up.

Surprisingly I have not had any change of hardware for a long time and this phenomenon recently started. However worth to mention that printer has been configured to go into sleep mode after 60 minutes (that never bothered the PC), the firmware is latest and printer works flawlessly. It is however connected with TWO USB cords (to extend the reach to the PC as the printer is in the other corner of room).

From the USB devices list, my best guess is still some USB disk you are using and it somehow breaks the system.
For diagnosing disks, I use GSmartControl and HDSentinel.
It might be another problem though: The SATA controller might be unappropriate for the disk model. I have this issue from time to time.
If the disk works fine on other systems, than most likely, the device is unsupported or at least, has some incompatibilities on this machine.

I've been looking at the lines listed. I also had trouble (different causes, similar behaviour) related to some devices.
In my experience, the problem comes from your USB Controller. Namely, a certain device that is attached through the USB Hub you are using.
Watch closely the following lines.

You can notice the number of errors on the attempts to access a device. I assume it is a storage media.
The polling USB routine attempts to reconfigure the bus but fails everytime.
Unfortunately, it is extremely difficult to figure out what really happens.
To make the long story short:
1. Remove any USB device attached to the system.
2. Plug in the USB devices one by one, in this exact order: USB Keyboard.
3. Start the computer.
4. Plug in the next USB devices, one by one: USB Hub; USB Mouse; USB Audio interface (if any); USB Printer. The last ones: USB Storage media.
5. At each step, write down on a paper IF something unexpected happens.

Can you provide some context about this log extract ?
For example, what time was the 'freeze' that this log covers ?
What actions were taken to unfreeze and at what time were those actions done ?

Are your keyboard and mouse connected by USB ?

Examination of the logs for a period around the time of a known freeze might show something.

Let me rephrase my problem; the computer itself does not freeze. It's the overall keyboard and certain mouse clicks that go unresponsive.

The computer works OK but I am unable to type anything in any application e.g. terminal, text editor etc. However I am able to open apps using the Xfce menu. I am able to close any window but double click or minimize will stop working. Cursor will not blink in the terminal/bash window.

Initially I was able to recover via logout/login or restart but I just discovered that I can "fix" the issue by switching consoles as well. i.e. pressing CTRL+ALT+F3 then back in GUI with CTRL+ALT+F7

I am going to check next time if the issue auto-fix itself.

The only change that I made was adding intel_idle.max_cstate=1 in the grub configuration. That was mentioned somewhere online to fix the issue. I guess I can remove it as it does not appear to help.

Freeze problems are difficult.
Can you provide a bit of context ?
For example
Does the system recover from the freeze by itself if you leave it ?
How do you restore access ?
Is the problem reproducible ? Do certain things trigger a freeze ?
Does it freeze if you leave the system totally alone ?
Is there a pattern that may indicate a temperature problem ?

When it freezes, is the computer completely unresponsive or are there some signs of life such as the keyboard indicators toggling if you press 'Num Lock' or 'Caps Lock'.
Does the on screen clock continue to update during a freeze ?

When it freezes does pressing Ctl Alt and F2 together have any effect ?
