I have two PCMCIA cards that work in my Dells, One is by TrendNet, The  other is an 5+yrs old Belkin , I only have 1 USB dongle by Belkin , It does not work, and the CD that came with it wont play on Linux. The Old Belkin PCMCIA cd has some real useful stuff on it for Looking at the whole 802.1? system. I grab these at swap meets for Hamm Radio , 2 or 3 U$D. Good Luck.

This may be more to the point of what your looking for, it is the list of wireless adapters supported by Ubuntu, which LL is based on.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/WirelessCardsSupported

The list also contains information about adapters that don't work, or worked with older versions of Ubuntu, look for the ones that work with "trusty" and you should be fine.

Thanks very much for your suggestions. I will do the cumbersome thing, read reviews and contact manufacturers if necessary. :D

Try ebay and/or amazon.  Look for the ones that specifically mention Linux and/or Ubuntu and plug and play.  You should be able to get something like that at amazon.com for about 10 dollars US.  And it will be 802.11n.

Note:  You might have to read reviews of how plug and play a particular wifi usb adapter is for Linux.  At least that's what I would do.  You'll have a better shot at getting reviews like that on amazon.com over ebay.

FYI:  There is a list here:  http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/.  But it could be overwhelming.  I suggest you follow what I have listed above.

 :-[
As an IT old timer but Linux newbie I am embarrassed to have to ask this question but I have found no info:

Is there, and if yes, where is a list (or similar) of wireless USB adapters that LL 2.6 will work with out of the box?

Or can someone please just tell what make/model to look for?

I had bought some (cheap, sic!) wireless adapters with a Ralink chip. The installation instructions for Linux on the disk were so cryptic that I returned the gizmos.

TIA for any info.
