If the Power Management change did not improve the disconnect, you should reverse it.
As before edit the file and change it back to this and save the file.

You'll need to restart to make it active.

My next suggestion would have been to try switching your channel.
But from the information provided earlier, channels 1 and 6 appear to be open to adjacent channel interference.

The final thing I can suggest is try different hardware.
A modern wifi adaptor may allow you to take advantage of the 5Ghz bands if your router has them.
Selecting an adaptor is not always easy.

The Panda brand of USB wifi adaptor has a good reputation on this forum.

In the last couple of days the wifi didn't work, either suspending and resuming.  So I was forced to use the live pendrive to connect to the internet.

Now I've changed the configuration to: power management = off and now, after failing on startup, then suspending and resuming, it is working again.

I'll inform you in the next days, thank you for now

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4460

  • MEMORY: 16Gb

OK, there are a number of issues there.  I haven't yet looked through the log.
Edit - I've now looked through it and it appears to be the same as the second part of the log you posted before with a few extra lines at the end.

I think it is best to only change one thing at a time. There are reports of adaptors not recovering if they enter a power saving state. Your adaptor is set to try to power save.
So first, please turn off power management on the wifi adaptor to see if it improves.

Run
Code: [Select]
iwconfigand confirm the current setting is on

Quote
wlp2s0    IEEE 802.11  ESSID:"TIM-27991109"
          Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.462 GHz  Access Point: 20:B0:01:AB:1C:45
          Bit Rate=13 Mb/s   Tx-Power=15 dBm
          Retry short limit:7   RTS thr:off   Fragment thr:off
          Power Management:on
          Link Quality=57/70  Signal level=-53 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:29   Missed beacon:0

Open the configuration file with
Code: [Select]
sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.confEnter your password if asked.

This should open a text editor displaying something like this.
Quote
[connection]
wifi.powersave = 3
Use the arrow keys to move around the screen and replace the '3' with '2' so the line looks like this

Quote
wifi.powersave = 2

Press Ctrl and O to write the change to the file
Press 'Enter' to confirm the file name
Press Ctrl and X to exit the editor
Check the change has been saved with
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
Restart the computer and log back on. Repeat the comand
Code: [Select]
iwconfigand check the state of power management

Quote
Power Management:off

If the line for 'Power Management' now reads 'off' run the machine as normal.
Let us know what happens

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4460

  • MEMORY: 16Gb

  • Kernel: 5.x
Please can you post the results of these two commands both when working and not working.

Code: [Select]
iwconfig
Code: [Select]
nmcli device wifi
Thank you for providing the logs.

The 20:35 to 20:45 report may have missed the start of the problem as there are temporary failue in name resolution events right at the beginning of the report which suggests something happened earlier.  From what we can see, between 20:40:26 and 20:40:27 the system disconnects from the wifi network, rescans and begins associating with the wifi but the IPv4 addressing can't be seen to become active.  This matches the symptoms reported but a log with an earlier window may be needed to capture any indication of the trigger.

It looks like there is a second log extract for 20:53:13 to 20:55:42.  This looks like the system being put into suspend/sleep mode and also shows the beginning of coming out of suspend/sleep.
clueless

Thank you for posting back.

Does the log (journalctl command) show anything at the time of the failure ?
Did the nmcli device monitor session show anything at the time of the failure ?
clueless

Yesterday the network failed once again. I tried to use nmcli disconnect and connect without success. Suspending and then reawakening  resolved the issue.

Thank you for posting back.  Anything in the log for the failure ?

Can you post the result of this command please ?
Code: [Select]
rfkillfollowed by return.

Try running the command below in a terminal window to monitor the connection.
Code: [Select]
nmcli device monitor wlp2s0followed by return.
You can start this while the network is working and then minimise the terminal window to leave it running.
When the IPv4 address disappears check back in the terminal window see if anything is logged.
If anything is shown when the failure occurs please copy it and post it to the thread.
When you've finished monitoring, select the terminal window and press 'Ctrl' and 'C'

When a failure occurs, instead of putting the system into suspend and then waking it, try executing these commands in another terminal window - not the one running the monitor.  These commands will deactivate and reactivate the wireless adaptor and may restore function.
Code: [Select]
nmcli device disconnect wlp2s0followed by enter
Code: [Select]
nmcli device connect wlp2s0followed by enter

You will see the effect in the monitor window.

If the disconnect/connect commands do restore the connection, next time you can try just running the connect command
Code: [Select]
nmcli device connect wlp2s0followed by enter.

edit - correct spelling and try to improve clarity

Before and after information might help.

While it is working, open a terminal session by pressing three keys 'Crtl' 'Alt' and 'T' together.

In the window that opens copy and paste these commands
Code: [Select]
inxi -Fxxxrz | tee ~/"$(date +"%Y_%m_%d_%T")-inxi-information.txt"followed by enter and then
Code: [Select]
ifconfig -a | tee ~/"$(date +"%Y_%m_%d_%T")-ifconfig-information.txt"followed by enter.

These will create a couple of text files prefixed with date and time in your home directory.
The text files should be the results of the commands.
You can review the information in them.  Copy the text from the files and paste it back into this thread so we can see how it looks when working.

When the fault happens, repeat the above commands to make new text files while it is not working. Post the information back.

If you can determine when it goes from a working state to a failed state, the logs around the time it fails may show what is happening.
After the fault has happened, open a terminal session and paste in this command
Code: [Select]
journalctl --since 08:00 --until 08:30 --no-pager | tee ~/"$(date +"%Y_%m_%d_%T")-journalctl.txt"followed by enter.

Replace the 08:00 and 08:30 times with your local times so it captures a window around the time the problem occurred.  Again, this should produce a text file in your home directory from which you can copy the information to the thread.

In Wi-Fi connection the IPv4 address is not assigned.

This happened in the past with the previous release and successively with the last one .   Turning off the pc in "suspend" and then waking up makes networking working again.   I tried to assign fixed IP: in "connection information" IPv4 appears configured but the browser didn't retrieve web pages from the internet. I was forced to reinstall the last release 6.6 and initially it worked fine but since  some days  the problem proposed again.
Booting from the live cd, all works properly almost all the time.  Maybe it is an hardware fault but i dont know how to detect it (perhaps whith a diagnostic tool).
