I use PLOP

to  boot on usb on my usb 1.1 port on my IBM T23 and Panasonic Cf-48 . I also used PLOP and posted here on the forum it works for Linux_Lite live usb boot up. So it has already been tested and confirmed.

You tube video  in my test link will show you where to go after the cd boots up.

I made my Linux-Lite live pen drive with Unetbootin (but I used the Linux version, Not Windows version on my test)

You can try following the instructions in the manual on using PLOP.  It can help with machines that won't boot to usb.
file:///usr/share/doc/litemanual/install.html#plop

OR

If you have another computer, you can put the hard drive that one, install Linux Lite onto that hard drive, and then you can return the hard drive to the computer in question.

I've been trying to install linux lite in an old machine for the last week.  The machine won't boot from usb and only has an old cd rom drive.  So i hunted down some blank cd roms at walgreens and now find the 700 mb isn't going to be enough.  is there a way to get this "easy" to use system on this old computer?
