Nice to hear that
@charvie
,
Those release-candidate kernels are not always that stable and these things may happen.
Personally I try to stick in versions like: 4.15, 4.16, 4.17, and so on but nothing between them.
(Although sometimes it is like waiting for Christmas for a new minor version, so...
Hopefully 4.18 will arrive soon. I will install it and then forget the kernel business with this laptop

Today I installed 4.15.0-29 via update and boot-up time is great. So mark as solved. 4.15.0-24 caused problems on some hardware but the new update kernel 4.15.0-29 has fixed that problem.

Hello All
For what it's worth it appears kernel 4.15.0-24 is causing similar problems for the Linux Mint people too. One post recommends going back to -23 or waiting for -25 (or better).

Thank you, You know best where this belongs.
Update: After reading bermudalite's post about slow startup time I rechecked my boot-ups. Before I always intervened by moving the mouse, I have No Patiences!!
Rechecked Results:
With 4.15.0-23 boot-up was complete in 13.5 sec.
With 4.15.0-24 boot-up was complete, (I waited), in 2 min and 32 sec.
Maybe something in the boot-up is waiting for a time out.
More to come I hope.

Moved out of Bugs as that is not an accurate location for this thread.
Have looked into this, no reports can be found online, or in mailing lists regarding this specific kernel version. So you'll either have to stay on an older kernel and wait for a newer kernel, or use one of our custom kernels via Lite Tweaks.

Did that. The change notice does not mention any hardware being dropped. Version 4.15.0-24 is a security and bug fix update. As mentioned, one of the computers was running 4.15.0-22 the other 4.15.0-23 before the update. They both work with version 4.15.0-24 installed but they 'freeze' during the boot process. No hard drive activity. As soon as I move the mouse hard drive hard drive led starts flashing, 2 secs later bootup finishes and things work normally. But thanks for your suggestion.
P.S. Hardware of both machines is 6 years old. Don't think linux drops support for hardware that quickly, at least that's my experience in 15 years of using linux.

Some hardware is just too old for 4.x Linux kernels. Linux cannot support every combinations of every possible hardware ever made. Support of some combinations have been dropped out as you may find out reading the ChangeLog -files.

Noticed the same issue. FYI.
My first post. Absolute amateur, tried lots of Linux releases. This one is the best for me. Running really well on older single and coreduo laptops and netbooks.
Super job on the project.

Yesterday I did an Install Updates on two of my computers. Both are running Lite 4.0. One computer has a Foxconn mb with an intel d2500 cpu and the other a china made oem mb with a AMD A4. On both machines after the update and reboot the boot process stopped short of completing until I moved the mouse or tapped some keys on the keyboard. The machines work normally once the bootup finishes. If I change back to the previous kernel through the grub startup menu, (one was running -22, the other -23), they both come up normally. For now I have changed the grub default so they bootup on the old kernel but not deleted the -24 kernel from the machines so that I can continue to install updates without -24 kernel becoming the default again.
