You're welcome tfaranyosi -- best wishes to you also over X'mas holidays.

If you've got VirtualBox installed, you can always check out LL 2.2 on that.  Then if you see a something new in there that you like, just install it (or make the necessary change) to your LL 2.0.

Thank you gold_finger for your answer.
I am actually quad booting and installed quite a few additional software. LL 2.0 is working fine so I will stick with it.
Thanks again and have a great Christmas season.

Can we just build a upgrade script that pushes all the changes and if someone wants all the changes of 2.2 it is just a grab and go?
I could build it myself but I am not sure where all the changes are stored (besides the app changes) like the updated scripts and anything else that is floating around.

You might want to get in on this: https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/index.php?topic=1182.30

@altman

You're welcome altman -- but be aware that doing the above won't be equivalent to LL 2.2.  There are other subtle changes to system besides just those programs.  If you look at release announcement you'll see other improvements/changes for LL 2.2 listed.

Quote
Other Changes:

New adjustable size mouse theme added.
Added File Roller as the default archive manager.
Added Light Locker.
Added new Login theme.
Clementine added to Install Additional Software.
Create System Report has been converted to GUI.
Added md5sum check to right click menu.
Added libreoffice-gnome to open files on a NAS.
Launchers now use exo-open instead of xdg-open.
Fixed power settings/screensaver conflict.

Mumble has been dropped.
inxi has been added by request.

I'm not exactly sure what the specific changes were on some of the ones in blue.  If your happy with LL 2.0, keep it.  I've got the Beta LL 2.2 on a test machine and will install final version to it this weekend; but probably will just stick with LL 2.0 on main computer.

@sysdrum,

That might be possible, but I don't really know.  As stated above, I'm not sure what exact changes were on some of the above, so don't know how easily they could be written into a script.  Eg.  I don't know exactly what was done to fix power setting / screensaver conflict, don't know if adding light-locker would cause a conflict with something on LL 2.0 without removing something first, etc.   Jerry would know answer to that.

Without wishing to be negative on the good work being carried out in development of LL, is there any need to upgrade at this time; assuming all is working well.

No -- it's not necessary to upgrade.  As you already realized, most new additions included in LL 2.2 can be added to your current 2.0 pretty easily.  New release is nice (especially for new users) because it incorporates all improvements/additions/etc. right off the bat.

In LL 2.2 xarchiver was replaced with file-roller.  You can make that change to 2.0 by doing (in a terminal):
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get purge xarchiver
sudo apt-get install file-roller

You can add Deja Dup (backups), Catfish (file search), and new Lite Cleaner tool with:
Code: [Select]
sudo apt-get install deja-dup catfish lite-cleaner
If you prefer, you can do all of above using Synaptic Package Manager instead of the terminal.  (Menu -> System -> Install/Remove Software.)

If there are other new features listed by Jerry that you would like to add to LL 2.0, make a separate thread post asking about them rather than adding on to this thread.  Don't want to veer too far off subject of original poster.

Thanx Gold_Finger for the tip , didn t feel like doing a full reinstall of LL .

It seems to me, too, that there is little benefit to be gained in upgrading from 2.0 to 2.2.  I can see the logic of issuing a new version, as there has been a lot of development since the LL2.0 ISO was published, but an up-to-date installation of 2.0 with additional packages installed (and unwanted ones uninstalled) appears to provide everything that most users would want from LL2.2.

To answer your question newtusmaximus, the backup facility in 2.2 is Deja Dup.  I have to say, though, that I would recommend Back in Time rather than Deja Dup, having tested them both.  It's perhaps not quite as simple, but it's not complex and it has the advantage of backing up in the native file format and it is faster (in restoring) and more flexible than Deja Dup.  Incidentally, the Thunar right-click modification suggested at  https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/index.php?topic=1136.0  also works for Back in Time using the command:  /usr/bin/backintime-gnome %F .

I understand that the Kernel for  LL2.2 is the same as for 2.0? i.e 3.13?
Catfish is available as an add on for  LL2.0 to give  file system search.
LiteCleaner is available for  keeping the system "Lite"
I presume that the addition of a backup facility  would be also be possible as a download addition.  Which one has LL2.2 used please?

Or am I being too cautious??

There's no direct way to upgrade from one to the other.  You'll need to do a fresh installation.  If you currently have your LL setup with a separate partition for Home, then process will be very easy.  If not, then you'll need to make backups of important data that you want to keep first, then install and restore backed-up data to new system.  That's not hard, just adds time to whole process.

Answer following questions so we can give better guidance:

Is LL currently the only operating system on computer, or are you dual-booting with Windows?

Have you installed many additional programs to your system?  If so, make yourself a list of them so you can quickly install them again to the new system.

Are you currently familiar with how to make a backup of your /home folder?  (That's what you'll need most if you don't have a separate partition for home now.)

Boot into your current LL system, open a terminal and enter the following three commands to give us an idea of what your current partitions look like:
Code: [Select]
lsblk
df -h
sudo parted -l
(Last command ends in a lowercase letter "L", not the number 1.)

Copy/Paste the full terminal output back here for us to see.
