gtkpod sometimes works in Linux or you can run it with Wine or in a VM.  No idea about the Garmin thing.  You might try QLandkarte and see if it works.  FWIW, gtkpod has loaded up both my 1st gen iPad and iPod Nano but it will NOT update the OS on my iPad.  (I still have Win7 on my laptop and needed that to update the OS...not that it really matters since it's a 1st gen.)

I started using a dual boot of LL 1.06/W7 SE about a year ago on my netbook and love it so much, i rarely log into Windows....except for when I "have" to.
I have several programs that run on Windows, like Garmin Connect and Itunes, that supposedly have to be run on Windows/Apple.

Is there any way to run these on LL? If i can figure this out, I'm taking the plunge and going all the way with 2.0 ;-)

Thanks,
Steve
