Linux Lite 2.2 changes in making user account main default login

If you're talking about the new "light-locker" thing, you can just get rid of it altogether if you don't want it.  Just open up Synaptic, find it with the search box, then remove it -- that's what I did.

Hi all,
Sorry for the confusion. Seems that to turn off the Screen Saver there are now 4 places to turn it off.
That's is what is confusing.
When Screen Saver kicks in it kicks default login user off and makes you re-login which is something new with Linux 2.2.

With Lite 1.0.8 I was given the following instructions to make a guest account the default login.

Are you sure that method no longer works?

I just ran a test in VBox on LL2.2.  I used Jerry's info to create the missing /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf file and set it to auto-login the non-root user and it worked fine.  Here's what I did.

*  Logged in to the main user account (one with sudo privileges).

*  Used this command to create the lightdm.conf file in the /etc/lightdm directory:

gksu leafpad /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
*  In the newly opened file, I pasted the exact lines that Jerry posted and substituted the correct username in place of "personsname".  Here's an example:

autologin-guest=false
autologin-user=jane
autologin-user-timeout=0
autologin-session=lightdm-autologin
*  Saved the file, closed the text editor.

*  Rebooted and it booted straight into user Jane's account (which is test account I set up without root privileges).


I have a feeling you might have just made some kind of small error.  Double-check what you have against what I just posted.  (Maybe you tried creating the file as a normal user and it never got saved.  It needs to be created as root, thus the need for opening the text editor with "gksu".)

Do you have sudo capabilities as that user? How did you create that user in the first place?

Hi Jerry,
That alone did not allow it to autologin to the user side, so tried doing the Menu->System->Login Settings and get this error message:

Failed to run sed -i s/autologin-user=linux/autologin-user=name/g/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf as user root.

The underlying authorization mechanism (sudo) does not allow you to run this program.
Contact the system administrator.

What did I do wrong?

Create the file lightdm.conf in /etc/lightdm, paste this into it:

Really needing the guru's for Linux lite to solve this as we need this to move off of the Linux 1.0.8 platform to the new Linux 2.2 for LTS platform.
The State I work for deploys close to 300 of these towers to use off site around out state so this is really important we get this going.

Hi All,

      Type the word Thunar, then click “Run”
In left window click on “File System”
Then double click “etc”, find the “lightdm” folder, right-click it to “Open as
Administrator”. Enter the password. Find the “lightdm.conf” file and
Open with “leafpad”.
Find the line :
“autologin-user=linux” and replace with “userid” (don’t include the quotes)
Do a File Save, then File – Quit.
Close all remaining windows.
