Nothing beats success even if you don't know why. Congrats. Maybe it's AI? Who could say for sure anyway brother? My guess would be a dirty groups file that finally read down properly. Who knows.

No special settings anymore are needed here at this moment.
Icons stay put now.
I have no idea why, but I thought let me say hooray on the forum..!

Today every icon went nuts again after I installed on another partition PCLOS 64bits for testing...????!

A very, very strange thing I must say.
I have done desktop-icons in folders now.
I'm done with it.  ::)  Distro (2.8 ) besides that is perfect.

Is /home on its own partition? If so, /home is probably shared between LL and PCLOS... PCLOS settings could have overwritten the LL configurations..

/home/ is always on the partition of its OS. A little vulnarable, but I make regular images and live-media of every OS. So the /homes/ don't have to do anything with each other.

That would be great, JmaCWQ

My solution is doing 100% here, but something rocklike would be fine!

GParted refreshes itself auto when an action has been completed & won't let the user close it (greyed out) until it's finished, and yes, all volumes are shown correctly in it.
Tried a manual refresh when I hadn't performed any actions, no difference.
Seen that link before too, and have tried that solution with no luck.
I know that's the file that gets locked with the command sudo chattr +i ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/icons* which is so far the only way I've found to keep everything 100% where it's put.
As it's only the volume icons affected now, not every icon on the desktop, and only when using Gparted I don't think I'll waste any more time on it.

If I stumble across a solution or what's causing it on my setup I'll make sure to post what I've found.

This of course is the more difficult solution -
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xfce#Desktop_icons_rearrange_themselves

Also if you elect to install channels and use a kiosk mode, you can make a user template. When it comes to using a terminal for modifications Arch and Debian wikis are the best for info. A lot of other sources are not correct as there are subtle differences in commands and tools between distros.

Try refreshing g-parted. Make sure it lists all the volumes before you close it.

Looks like I spoke too soon, If the volume icons are from internal volumes/partitions it does as I mentioned above, returns them to their original positions when GParted is closed.
But if there's one or more external volume icons displayed on the desktop, when GParted is closed all the volume icons stay in the top left positions.
None of the other icons seem affected, only the volume icons.

Creating some sort of template might be the only way to solve this annoying problem once and for all, but as I have no idea where to even start on something like that I guess I'll just pretend it doesn't happen for now  ;D

XFCE properties is case insensitive. It shouldn't make a difference, but sometimes it does when blending gnome desktop properties in. It has to do with the way settings are stored in the caches for loading on login. You could build an XFCE desktop user template yourself with a specific area for always placing specific icons, panel, windows, and so forth. Most changes can be tested in XFCE without permanently changing your system. Could be a fun project.

That seems to work, thank you again Trinidad.
What happens now is when Gparted is opened any volume icons for not mounted volumes vanish & any that are mounted jump to the top left, however now when GParted is closed all icons return to their original positions whereas before they would stay in the top left position and have to be moved back manually.

 XfdesktopIconView::ellipsize-icon-labels = 1
and
XfdesktopIconView::cell-spacing = 6

Change the cap I  in "view" in your file to small i. Reboot and see if that hardens the installation.

Opening GParted causes any volume icons to jump to the top left position.
Doesn't matter if they're mounted or not, if they're powered on & the icon is on the desktop every time GParted is opened they jump to that position.

I now have Gnome services enabled at startup, thank you for that little snippet of information, that fixed it instantly on both LL 3.0 & LL 2.8, finally after all this time those damn icons stay where they're put  8)
Before the logouts/restarts I ran the command sudo chattr -i ~/.config/xfce4/desktop/icons* so the config file was unlocked again, now it doesn't matter where on the desktop they're put they stay there regardless of an F5 refresh, reboot or shutdown.
That will make mine & a few others I know having the same issue's time spent in front of a screen a little more enjoyable.
The screen edge function was already off.

Lol, I have no idea if those lines are correct or not, do they look wrong to you?
I've been using that same file since just after I started using LL on version 2.0, it did what I wanted at the time which was remove the highlight from the desktop icons when they weren't selected.
Only changes I made in that file were to the base, cell & fg entries, the rest I left as it was.
This is the original text I was given to add to my existing gtkrc-2.0 file:

Code: [Select]
style "xfdesktop-icon-view" {
    XfdesktopIconView::label-alpha = 0
    XfdesktopIconView::selected-label-alpha = 170
    XfdesktopIconVIew::ellipsize-icon-labels = 1

    XfdesktopIconView::shadow-x-offset = 0
    XfdesktopIconView::shadow-y-offset = 0
    XfdesktopIconView::shadow-color = "#000000"
    XfdesktopIconView::selected-shadow-x-offset = 0
    XfdesktopIconView::selected-shadow-y-offset = 0
    XfdesktopIconView::selected-shadow-color = "#ffffff"

    XfdesktopIconVIew::cell-spacing = 6
    XfdesktopIconView::cell-padding = 6
    XfdesktopIconView::cell-text-width-proportion = 2.5

    base[NORMAL] = "#cccccc"
    base[SELECTED] = "#cccccc"
    base[ACTIVE] = "#cccccc"

    fg[NORMAL] = "#ffffff"
    fg[SELECTED] = "#000000"
    fg[ACTIVE] = "#000000"
}
widget_class "*XfdesktopIconView*" style "xfdesktop-icon-view"
