Forgot the click add - nice catch.

I didn't need a reboot to make my UK settings stick though; maybe I was lucky.

Further to the post from Elija, I think there is a problem with keyboard, language and regional selections in Ubuntu 14.04 derivatives in general, not just Linux Lite. For example, selecting location as London during install and then accepting the offered defaults of UK English and normal UK keyboard, the system gets installed with US English. To get UK English I do this:
  • Right click on the keyboard icon (bottom right)
  • Left click "Preferences"
  • Select "Input method"
  • Tick "Customize active input methods
  • Use drop down and it's pop-up sub menu to select the language and variant
  • Click "Add" then "Close"
  • Left click the keyboard icon
  • Left click the desired one (which then "sticks")
  • Menu/Settings/Language Support
  • Choose language variant (may insist on doing an update) and click to make it system wide
  • Choose Regional Format and click to make it system wide.
  • Close and reboot.
I hope that at least part of that helps.

On Linux Lite 2 there is a keyboard icon on the system tray. If you left click on that it should show a list of installed languages. If German is not there or doesn't seem to work then

Right click on the icon
Select preferences
In the Ibus Preferences window select Input method
Make sure that Customise active input methods is clicked
Select the appropriate version of German from the drop down list
Select Advanced
Make sure that Use system keyboard layout is not ticked.
Once you have closed the preferences window then you may need to log out and back in again.

Hi Buddel,

Welcome to LL.

Please take a look at the LL Help Manual here
http://www.linuxliteos.com/manual/install.html#language
maybe there's a step that was missed?

Hello,

I've just installed linux lite on an older computer - unfortunately I am not able to change the language (menus etc. to German for the main user.

I tried to change it via the setting > language support, applied system wide, even removed English as an option but all the menus in all programs remain in English.

How can I change the language?  (by the way German was selected during the installation process in the first place)

B.
