@Wirezfree

A separate thread would be a great move in due course, but as I say at the moment I'm maxing out my current processors, even with the simplest FM mono receiver.

GNU Radio requires a high power CPU such as an Intel i7, in order to achieve anything meaningful, which for me won't be until next year. With that you could produce an FM radio with RDS or a DAB radio, or a multitude of other radio's between say 30Mhz to over a Ghz, using just a RTL2832U+R820T USB dongle as your hardware.

If you wanted to make a start using GNU Radio with your i7, the best first move would to get a RTL2832U+R820T USB dongle from Ebay or Amazon for less that 10 pounds. If you wanted to go lower in frequency you can get an up converter for about 30 pounds.

Sadly I won't be able to make real progress on GNU Radio until next year when I get my i7.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said. But I'm not sure you realise that what you heard is not what I meant.

Correction

The machine being built is based on an E2KM11 not E35M1-I. Both AMD 64 bit mini-ITX motherboards.

Hi shengchieh,

Thanks for the link. There's a lot of good stuff there, I'll be having a rummage around, but it may take some time.

Hi Wirezfree,

An Intel Core i7 i7-4790K (Quad Core 4GHz) is on my future list, but not until at least next year. Probably on a Gigabyte Z97X-SOC under LL 2.8 or 3.0.  I'll be using it to have a play with software based radio, using GNU Radio and others. I've tried with my present machines but they all max-out on processing.

This machine running Windows 7 is an E35M1-I supporting LL 2.6 on VMware, is mainly a video machine. With a dual channel PVR, using nPVR and a pair of RTL2832U+R820T USB dongles. Together with 750GB +2 TB +2TB + 2 Blueray recordable drives, plus a bucket full of video software.

The machine being built is based on an E35M1-I, which again has 6 off 6gb sata support, but also has increased memory support to 16GB. Like I say I now have all the bits, including a small case, and just need the 2TB 2.5 inch drive, which I'll buy soon. That'll be my music machine, complete with a miniDLNA server, and Winamp on XP within virtualbox.
I know you believe you understand what you think I said. But I'm not sure you realise that what you heard is not what I meant.

Hi Shady,

I did try Audacious a while ago when I was looking at several other distros.

But I found it just didn't match the ability to simultaneously view necessary information, manipulate and search it, in a large music library, as in nearly 10,000 artists, and help to keep all the tags up to date, using mp3tag.

I’ve found nothing up to the flexibility, breath and reliability of a fully configured Winamp Bento setup on a 40 inch screen

@Yoru3

Hi,

If you have not bought anything yet..??
Take a look at Shuttle Bare-bones, I have a XH-97V with i7-4790S + 16GB and DS-87 (very small) with i7-4790T + 16GB, both have onboard mSATA(Samsung 840's) + WD 2.5" Blacks(500GB)
The only mod I made was on the XH97V, I swapped the "Heat Pipes" for a low profile "Gelid Cooling" system run about 5-6C cooler.
It just purrs along, I can run 10VM's inc ms-dos 6.22 networked :) ,(14 virtual CPUS & 14GB Mem)
I forgot the Linux Chart

(( All the Win stuff is for posterity, the XP VMS are actually images of my what was my real XP installs converted to run on VBox ))

Why am I still going to use XP? ,
to support Winamp, with a large music library. It's the only Windows program I can't do without.

You should check out and install Audacious on Linux Lite, It's very similar to Winamp imo.

All my machines now on 2.6, including the virtual and notebooks. Upgraded with no problems, just have to remember up update, upgrade, boot, update.

LL is really looking professional now, and if more organisations knew of it, I'm sure they'd seriously consider it. Maybe even including the UK NHS, Government and Police forces, many of which are still paying M$ for XP support.

Still believe the 'Raleigh' should be the default appearance, with it's Windows like scroll bars, but at least it's there for selection, once people realise it's got bars.

I've decided that my present Windows 7 is the last Windows I'll buy, so it's no go to Windows 10, and no worries about having to throw out propitiatory software because of driver incompatibilities, yet again. That's something I don't think M$ ever factors in properly.

Anyway, I have a new home brew machine in the pipeline, based on another Mini-ITX, but with 16 GB of memory,just the 2 TB drive to get. I intend on running LL as the main operating system, supporting XP (without net access) in Virtualbox configured with 2 X 500GB drives. Most of my virtual machine work so far has been with VMware on Windows 7, so hope the intended Virtualbox configuration works okay.
