sudo add-apt-repository ppa:minecraft-installer-peeps/minecraft-installer sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install minecraft-installer
java -jar /directory/path/.Minecraft.jar
I had a similar problem, to get MC to work I had to install the ppa for Oracle Java 8. Here are the commands you will need to enter into a terminal (ctrl+alt+t)sudo apt-add-repository ppa:webupd8team/javasudo apt-get updatesudo apt-get install oracle-java8-installerYou should be prompted a few times, accept these prompts and agree to Oracle's Java License Agreement. Once you have followed these steps you should be able to right click on minecraft.jar, click on "open with" and select Oracle Java 8 Runtime.
java -jar minecraft.jar
