My Linux Dell Dimension 3100 has all of the latest updates installed. I have not been able to install Google Chrome.
Google Chrome stopped working a few days ago after I installed all of the latest updates to LL 6.6.

Using the Firefox web browser,
From www.google.com/chrome, I download the 64-bit.deb.
The file I get is google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb.

(I am kind of curious why amd64 is in the file name, because my
Dell Dimension 3100 has an Intel processor.)

After I click on the file that I downloaded, I get an small pick-up window which
states "Open the file link?
You'll need to chose an application."
I click on the Choose button.
But there not a list of applications to choose from
It would seem that Linux Lite should know what applications to use to expand
and execute the file.
I do not know whether Google needs to fix the problem or whether
Linux Lite needs to produce an update to fix the problem.

So, right now, it is not possible to install Google Chrome on Linux Lite 6.6.
I would appreciate any suggestions for help. I am new to Linux in the process of
moving over from Windows. Thank you.

Well,
I do have a rather a big problem about my programming...
Well I use Pelles 'C to program in C using Linux Lite since
a long time (it started with lite 3.8)... and so going away
from Windows as Pelles' C is a windows program...
It when well for years and years... but last week I had
to reinstall my computer and the 5.8 I did used the last
years (and was doing it's job very well) had to be renewed
again as the rest of my software... starting the 5.8 lite again
was a disaster as it does install anymore... it stops somewhere
in the second half of the install... ok... then going to lite 6.6...
why not ??? But 6.6 doesn't work with wine anymore... ok
one can run a program but in a very bad way... Q4wine
doesn't work... the wine program screen shows no wine
programs and whatever... 6.6 isn't Ubuntu anymore but
some strange other program that makes it impossible
to turn into the normal programming system... did try
a lot of programs for the last two weeks while 5.8 did
install wine in a few seconds... sad... sad... I have to go
to windows again... I left it 15 years ago... Well...

I installed Linux Lite 7.4 last week along with the associated version of Libre Office. (so - newbie)

When I open Libre Office, under the Create Menu, all the options are greyed out and unavailable.
In this situation, if I go Open File and navigate to an ODT file and click Open then I get a "Filter Selection" window with contents that suggest it thinks it's a chart. It won't open.

If, however, I navigate to the same ODT file through File Manager and double click it, it opens faultlessly. Same for .ODS files.

Is someone able to help me Create a new file or open an existing file through the main menu please?
Thanks, Mark

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to install Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2.2 on Linux Lite 7.0, which is based on Ubuntu 24.04. However, when I run the `.deb` installer, I get the following error:

packettracer depends on libgl1-mesa-glx; however: Package libgl1-mesa-glx is not installed.

I tried installing `mesa-utils` and other related packages, but it seems `libgl1-mesa-glx` is no longer available in the 24.04 repositories. I also searched for `.deb` packages online, but couldn't download them successfully from the Ubuntu mirrors.

Does anyone know a safe workaround for this? Maybe a replacement library or a PPA that brings this dependency back? I’d like to avoid downgrading my system or switching distros just for this.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello, I am new to linux so decided to try Linuxlite. I am trying to install Brave browser but have not been able to figure out a way to succesfully do so. I am using a USB drive with 20gb persistant storage on a laptop, safe boot on the bios in laptop is disabled. I have been troubleshooting with the AI system on LinuxLite website for several hours and it just seems to produce an endless amount of errors. The AI will have me run command lines in terminal to fix an error, and in the process of attempting to fix that error, another error appears and then attempt to fix the next one--- basically endlessly.

The "preinstalled" chrome browser doesn't launch, but I am able to install the firefox browser from the Litesoftware welcome page. For the brave I used the single command line install (curl -fsS https://dl.brave.com/install.sh | sh) and also the command lines they list for debian/ubuntu/mint with similar results. I am not a tech expert by any means but I can do the basic command lines and # out the lines that are recommended to be disabled, etc.

What am I missing? Or do I just need a different distro?

I've downloaded Virtual Moon Atlas. My first attempt at installing VMA told me that I needed Lihpasastro. After downloading and installing Lihpasastro, that error went away, but, after installing VMA, it told me that I needed to remove it and install it in the correct directory. I removed it, but I don't know what directory to use for VMA nor do I know how to tell Linux to install VMA in that directory. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks.
