Choose the 4.4.0-112-generic only and not the upstart version?(i.e. Hold shift on boot, choose the correct Kernel in "advance" settings).I'm doing this by memory so hope I'm pointing correctly
Just a thought, and an obvious question perhaps. Have you set up whole-disk encryption? I still use 3.6 but in that version the system will appear to get stuck on the splash screen while it waits for the decryption password.Also, someone may be able to answer this - is it possible to clear the splash screen, and does this then display messages about the boot process (did I read somewhere the ESC key does this)?
You can edit grub to remove the “quiet” line. Than update grub.You’ll have all the output text.(sorry I’m on my phone again and dont have the link to the related thread in these forum though).
