First time installer here. I'm running Windows on an MBR disk. I have made space for a Linux partition.
I've looked in vain to find how to boot the installer in legacy/BIOS mode.
Booting the 8.0 ISO from a thumb drive.

came midway in a thread discussing a quirk in the installer when doing a moderately complex installation.
It shouldn't be relevant for most installations.

That said there are many variations and Linux Lite version 8 uses a new (to me) installer, so happy to try to help.
The fact that you want to dual boot with windows means we won't be making fundamental changes otherwise windows will stop working.

Starting with the legacy mode question - this relates to the age of the system.
If your system is pre 2005 it will have BIOS firmware and it will always boot in so-called legacy mode because it has no other option.
If your system is post 2005 it may have BIOS or UEFI firmware.  The newer the system, the more likely it is to have UEFI.  UEFI should be backwards compatible so it may emulate BIOS.  Part of the backwards compatibility is support for MBR.

There are a number of checks you can do to check if a system is BIOS or UEFI but they can be confusing.
If you know for sure, can you tell us which you have ?
